Post subject:  RPG elements?

Will we be able to buy equipments for the chess pices and by that I mean every single chess pice you own(for example: each pawn could have separate equipments but those pawns equipments would aim to increase the same stats thus introducing ranks for individual pieces to the game)). That would really add to the atmosphere and rpg elements of the game. Maybe this could be a game mode.

Hmmm, that sounds like an interesting twist to it. I wonder if they got anything of that nature planned?

Its a cool idea in the combat modes.
We don't have it planned to be added at the moment, however, it is an idea for possible future expansion.

We're busy experimenting with this in the combat game modes.

Basically, killing people gives you experience points and enough of those gets you a level up or, rather, a skill point you can spend on upgrading your character. You can choose from a selection of improvements that make your killing machine cogs turn a little faster.
The other big issue is that when you respawn, you get to choose which character to play as. Pawns are weak and cheap while rooks, queens and the others are more expensive. The currency to buy your character is your skill points so you can choose between upgrading your current character or saving up for a better class in your next life.
When your character dies, all their upgrades go with them and you keep your unspent skill points.
This is a very short-term progression, you don't have to grind two hundred trolls to get a level-up. Advancement is much more rapid so death is not such a huge loss.

Looks good, but I think the real impact of such gory violence actually comes from reactions of the victim. While BW has great gore effects, the reaction of players/bots that get hit or killed is so plastic and fake that it takes most of the fun out of it for me. This is why I loved Soldier of Fortune back in the day, you really felt disgusted due to how painful the in-game victims made the violence seem like combined with the great effects (for that time).
