Hi pals,

i realized that one of my mutators hasn't been advertised here:

But since some ppl already downloaded it, there must be a particular interest in it.
Here we go.

Download

Ballistic Weapons Loadout Expanded is a mutator for Ballistic Weapons 2.5 made by Paul "Grum" Haack - http://Crazy-froggers.com

It Features:
- The abiitiy to add a "- Random -" entry to the loadout menu and spawn with a random weapon for a specific loadout group
- The ability to add a "- None -" entry to the loadout menu and spawn without any weapon for a specific loadout group
- A small fix of the BW-stock issue/bug known as "priority bug". Players will now spawn with primary weapons first, rather then with secondary ones

How to install:
- Copy all folders and files into your UT2004 main directory or install it using the UT2k4 Content Installer (http://crazy-froggers.com/about/grum/works/software)
- Delete the BWCache.ini in the System directory of UT2004

How to use:
- As client:
- select the "- None -" entry if you want to spawn without a weapon for the specified group
- select the "- Random -" entry if you want to spawn with a random weapon from the set of available guns in the specified group
- As host:
- Replace the Ballistic Loadout mutator with the Ballistic Loadout Expanded mutator
- Configure the loadout sets in the mutator
- Add the "- None -" and "- Random -" entries to the loadout group in which you want them to appear
- Finaly host the game

Special thanks:
- Logan "Black Eagle" Richert
- for the various explenation on the Ballistic Loadout System

- Kristian "Dittler" Ditt
- for the pretty icon materials and the final testing

- "Blade Sword"
- for the testing of the various nightly builds

Have fun buggers !

Does this work with the fixed core by Azarael?

Cool, getting this now. It'll definitely make BW even more fun.

EDIT: The mutator doesn't show up in the BW gametypes, only in the standard UT2004 ones. Can you fix this?

Its possible to achieve this either by an own Gametype (like BW Sloth) or by hacking the loaded mutator instance of the BW Gametype.

I will investigate that but not soon as i don't use the BW Gametypes, because there is no reason for me to do so.

Psh. Where were you when I was looking for a mutator like this?

EDIT: Could you upload this to Gamefront? I really don't want to have to make an account on a random site just to download a file.

The random site is hosted by the random guy who made the mutator you probably asked for times ago.
I wouldn't host such a site if i want to bother again with file distribution platforms and other shit.

I spend time to make that mutator, you may spend time to register :|

I suspected this but wasn't sure. Either way, I do not take back what I said. And understand that I say that with good intentions. But I've stumbled across a much bigger problem than file distribution problems.

Let me tell you a story to explain. A guy decides that he wants to draw a portrait. He sits down and draws that baby, doing the best that he can. He's put some work into this. After it's done, he shows it to his audience and it's great, but there's also a problem with it. So tell me which is more harmful to the artist. The audience praising him for his art, saying it's perfect, despite the problem staring at them in the face or pointing out the problem with the very likely probability that the artist will be very hurt?

See the quandry? Now you may not see hosting the file on your site and forcing registration to download it a problem, but I will tell you why that is. It's a problem for two reasons.

1. Downloading from someones site isn't an inconvenience. But forcing visitors to register to that site is. Thus, you will mostly likely deter some visitors from ever downloading your good work simply because you didn't make it readily accessible when they needed it.

2. If your site shuts down for any reason and nobody has made any backups of the file publicly accessible elsewhere, the file is most likely gone forever. You might say that the site will never shut down but stuff happens. Life happens. And it happens all the time.

In the end, it's up to you to accept these criticisms or reject them. Sorry if I got really long-winded there but I believe this was something that needed talking about here.

2: I bet Grum's site will stay longer online than the file on Gamefront as they get removed after 60 days of no downloads. And even if I bet Grum, or someone else when asked nicely, will upload the file somewhere else.

Actually, you can make Gamefront keep the file permanently by making an account and submitting a file to Gamefront. And don't worry. As long as you detail the mutator accurately, it will not be deleted.

Yeah, its your decision.

Always fun to see how people are to lazy to register somewhere. It only takes a minute,
if not less. It isn't like tht you have to enter all your personal details like credit card number
and real name.
As Grum said, for several reasons we host an own hp, so we also host our mods/whatever
content there, because we enjoy being independent from 3rd party shitty file hosters.

Post subject:  Re: Ballistic Loadout Expanded

It's also your decision to use those shitty 3rd part file hosts. When you make that decision, if it's something I need to enjoy the game, it's no longer my choice. Don't get the two confused.

It's not a matter of lazy, it's a matter of me not doing something I don't want to do. You host your own services so that you don't have to deal with any of that yourself.

Seriously? Complain all you want but Grum has no obligation to even share it with you. He made it for his own use and is giving you the opportunity to use it. He has no incentive to upload it elsewhere.

You're right, he doesn't. I'm not saying/complaining about the file itself, nor his choice of where it's hosted. The issue I take is with people making the assumption that because there's a registration piece, it's not worth the time nor effort. There are plenty of files that I have registered with and have never once been back to the site.

If you understand my points, you get it. If not, oh well. It's not worth the time or energy to argue finer points of those kinds of things.

To Grum's credit though, I did go to his site, expecting ads of some sorts, and I saw none. No popups and the like were seen. Too many times have I gone to register only to be bombed by unwanted anythings. (Though I would disable the autoplay of the BGM; just personal taste though.)

Hi,

as a matter of facts, my hosting provider doesn't allow me to have a public download section, so i decided for a log in rather then external file hosters. Forgive me my laziness.

Beside that, there is a new version available by now.
The -random- and -none- entry appear in the proper section now.
It's contained in Blades link too.
