All my suggestions for this crossbow would be diferent ammo types (I don't think their very original, but here they go anyway):

-Regular: well, a standard bolt, which doesn't make much noise when fired.

-Explosive: either explodes on impact (like the one in Chaos UT), explodes a little after hitting (like the one on Black Ops), or acts like a M46 proxy-mine.

-Poison/Healing: acts like a XMk5 poison dart, but heals teammates.

-Tracker: targets damaged by this dart show off their silhouette through walls.

-Lightning bolts: (yes, I really like this pun ::) ) targets hit suffer effects similar to a Heavy Tech grenade. If the bolt hits water, it causes AOE electrical damage to underwater targets.

-Flame Bolts : bolts that cause targets to catch fire and ignite puddles of fuel.

-Long Range bolts: In case your planning to give your regular bolts a parabolic trajectory, these would have longer range, but leave a tracer.

-Spread/Burst bolts: either shoots a bolt that splits itself shooting 2 other bolts in opposite 45 degree angles, or loads up a set number of bolts and then shoots them in rapid succession.

For "variants", maybe a single shot version, without the clip (I think this would allow for some powerful long range bolts and explosive bolts, but still keep it balanced)
As for "a completely new one" , I suggest a light one-handed crossbow (maybe wrist mounted). Or maybe a "regular bow"?

I actually do like the Mule from Resistance: Burning Skies. I had an idea that it would be a mod of the Redwood Super Coach Gun, with the crossbow on top firing sticks of dynamite.

Oh Oh OH!

Make it so that we can strap hand grenades on the bolts !

So the guy first gets hit with the bolt and on the off chance he survives he'd have a hand grenade stuck to him to finnish him off

the flipside of the deal would be it would consume both a bolt and a hand grenade as such without said grenade the crossbow is much less threatening

What I want to see is an updated version of the original ChaosUT crossbow. (in terms of feel and function, not necessarily appearance)

It was scoped and had three different ammo types; standard, poison, and explosive. The diameter, damage, and explosive effect of the explosive arrows was about as close to perfect as UT'99's game engine allowed. It was one of my top three favorite weapons in the entire game. (the other two were the RPB sniper and the flak cannon)

Edit: The game mechanics for the poison bolt could be taken from the XMk5's poison dart.

NO. The flashing screen effect for it is incredibly annoying. So anything except the green flashing screen. Also, multiple ammo types that you pick up in separate spots for one weapon aren't supported in BW I think. And thank goodness. Trying to get a weapon replacement mutator to work with the different ammo types in both ChaosUT's just plain DIDN'T WORK. Also very annoying.

It's been a while since I played Chaos UT1999, didn't they treat the ammo types as separate weapons? I know Chaos UT2 allowed you to change ammo types on the fly thanks to a a keyboard button.

As for poison bolts, it would have to be something different from the XMK5's dart, if it were the same, it would render poison bolts as a superior version to the dart.

I'd say make the poison more like a slowing/paralyzing agent, wouldn't have an annoying flashing screen and it wouldn't last long for balance reasons.

Yes, they did. Though if you picked up a crossbow of any type, it would give you the crossbow for the other two as soon as you picked up the appropriate ammo for them.

Since changeable ammo types screws with weapon replacement, we should probably do the "different weapons" approach of ChaosUT '99. Though I'm not sure if it is possible to replicate the feature that makes it so you only need to pick up the physical weapon model's pickup once for all three weapons.

It is possible, you can make the pickup "giving" you three weapons, and only ammo for the one you've picked up. In other words when you make the "weapons" code wise, you make each three weapons being acquired by the same pickup.
The other thing is about doing modified models so people will have different weapons with the appropriate ammo and have some different functions aside of the specialty ammunition.

I know that in ChaosUT2, the crossbow always came with a stack of standard ammo plus some few poison and explosive bolts. So maybe you could take a similar approach?

And to counter the problem with not finding ammo for the other bolt types (like it was the case in CUT2 if you used the crossbow without the CUT2 mutator) you could make the ammo pickup give standard bolts as majority and some few of the other types similar to how M50 ammo gives bullets and grenades.

Or make the different ammo types into completely different crossbow versions altogether.

By the way, I hope we're not hijacking your thread too badly Grum? :S

I'm all for having different ammo/different versions of the crossbow, that's what the FSSG-50 is doing.

I'd say add a tri bolt function like BLOPS2. But it was pointless in that game and I think it would be just as pointless. :P

So SUSAT scope reticule is OK to use as the scope reticule for the crossbow scope? :?:

People can feel free to say what they want as long as you talk about the mod in question ;)
Actually if any bow or crossbow shoots multiple arrows / bolts at once, they will be launched in a squadron pattern like the UT's rocket launcher alt when fully charged, I believe that increasing the hit probability is a better call than just increasing damage against people, but anyways if I do that I will probably do it with a bow rather than a crossbow.
I also thought from the beginning to have a reverse bow model for one of the variants.
As for the scope, if you want, I mean this will be discussed with people inside.

Have you ever tried to shoot that many arrows off of a bow?

I have shot three arrows off of the same bow at once before, and it loses a ton of power and doesn't shoot with near the amount of force. The range of the bow is also greatly cut.

Even two arrows at once significantly lowers the range and force of the arrows, though unlike with three, it's workable if your bow is powerful enough.

Trying to shoot 6 arrows off of a bow in a single shot is laughable at best.

Ah the multi-bolt function.

Not gonna lie, I don't see a good use for it, the crossbow in Chaos UT2004 had that function, and it never seemed to be useful from my end. Though it was in a wide fan arc.

But I'm not seeing any good that will come out of it if there is a multi bolt function and that's my honest two cents.

the next weapon is under construction. Herr Doctors "Reichsprotektor 33 - RP33".

Nice Mp40 look-a-like! I always wanted one for BW, you should add a variant with a red dot sight just because it's the future and you'd never seen an mp40 with one otherwise.

Based on the same chassis I made the concept of what will be a new variant of the crossbow
The chassis will be altered as the only thing I will keep is the main frame and the lever action system I made this system, I had to make a new rig for it as it uses an other bow system and magazine system.
Other variants are also under conception.
