I have a question.

If I wanted to add a weapon to TOWP (that other weapon pack), would I need to learn how to rig and animate, or would just the model and texture be enough? Also, how do you ensure that your weapons are the correct scale for UT2004?

I am thinking of making a TF2-style scattergun. Side-by-side twin-barrel. Short with no stock, but two-handed. 12 shots. (6 + 6) It'll be lever-action, just like the Longhorn. Will probably be manually loaded.

I don't have much modeling experience, but it's only a few basic shapes with some multi-section (curve) bevels. I'm thinking 16-sided polygon cylinders for the barrels. I seen someone on Youtube make a physical model of one out of scrap wood and foam for TF2 cosplay, and I could probably follow that for creating the base mesh.

Moved post to new thread, That Other Weapon Pack isn't really affiliated with SKBP.

That being said, the more you can do the better, but I'm not really sure what we could do with a double barrel lever gun that hasn't already been done in one way or another. I'm not giving you a definite no, I need to talk to the others about it before making any decisions.

As for scale, I usually just scale the weapon to the BW Guy hands prior to animating, its not usually a big deal to change. What program are you using for modeling?

Blender. GIMP for textures.

I'm imagining the scattergun being functionally between the Super-10 and the M290. Damage and fire rate would be similar to the M290.

One of the reasons I want a scattergun is to have something more maneuverable than the M290, but with greater effective range than the MRT6.

Edit: Are there any other sources of inspiration for how this gun should look or work besides the obvious Team Fortress 2 scout gun?

So you want a shotgun with 2 short barrels ,12 round capacity and long effective range?

Also, here's something for inspiration:

Neostead (longer, but still...) :

Basically, yes. I want the scattergun to be much farther-shooting than the MRT6, but not have enough effective range to compare to the M763 Avenger. Weight, profile/length, and handling would be comparable to the SK-410.

A tri-barrel shotgun pistol. Cool idea. That would make a great alternative to the Redwood Sawn-off.

I just looked up the Neostead, and it has a single barrel with dual feed-tubes. Looks very interesting.

The dual-feed tubes also look like a great idea for an alternate version of the scattergun. I could design it with a forward-back pump-feed instead of the lever. The carry-handle sight could also be adapted in. I'll play with that idea and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the ideas. The Neostead idea seems especially promising. If that idea takes off, I will have my own semi-original weapon design.

Edit: If I do the "neostead tubes" version of the scattergun, its capacity will be 4+4 or 5+5. More likely 4+4. 6+6 is not realistic for the gun's expected length.

The 6 + 6 setup is at least close to a dual magazine setup
As for barrels I suggest you to use 12 sided barrels instead of 16 you will save a lot of polygons that way, while keeping the shape not too low poly.
As for getting your stuff in, the more you can do the more you can get your chances to get your stuff in.

I have decided I want a Neostead instead of the scattergun. (for now, I may do a scattergun later after I figure out its design better) It will have a single barrel and two tube magazines that hold six rounds in each. I'm thinking six shotshells + six slugs. The pump will be forward-back. (the pump shotguns in BW are back-forward) I'll take your advice and try 12-sided barrels.

I'll post again if anyone has any questions or suggestions, or when I have something tangible to show. Pics or it didn't happen, you know the saying.
