That Other Weapon Pack

Version 1.1

This is a community weapon pack focusing on weapons with unique combat roles. In this release:

Image
CX85 Assault Weapon: A long-ranged rifle with the secondary ability to launch tracking darts. These show struck enemies on the scope, or can be detonated with the Weapon Function key.

Model, Texture, Coding: Azarael, Animation: Captain Xavious

Image
PD-97 "Bloodhound": An RDS-equipped revolver with a 5-round cylinder. Launches darts which deal damage over time to enemies, heal allies and cause enemies to leave behind a pink trail, allowing them to be sought out. Altfire is a tazer, which slows the struck target to half speed when applied.

Model, Animation: Captain Xavious, Texture, Coding: Azarael

Image
Le Big XOXO: A staff of love, powered by lewdness. Is equipped with a long-range exploding bomb firemode, the standard Staff rapid fire, and an altfire which can either heal allies, locking onto them, or strike enemies, dealing increased damage with successive hits. With Lewdness, the Lust Shockwave becomes an option, and in Love Mode, a Sexplosion can be released.

Model: Vanico, Animation: Captain Xavious, Texture, Coding: Azarael, Effects: Luneshot

Image
AN-56 Akeron Launcher: A triple-barreled pod-loading rocket launcher. Fires fast rockets with a forward blast, capable of penetrating cover. Altfire offers a guided mode with limited range, with a payload much the same as that of the primary.

Model, Texture, Coding, Effects: Azarael, Animation: Captain Xavious

Image
MAU-52 Target Designator: Herr General's Airstrikes, integrated into a single Ballistic Weapon. By holding Weapon Function and scrolling through, one can rapidly select any of the airstrikes. A short description will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If the airstrike cannot be launched to your current location, the scope will be displayed in a red colour; otherwise, it shows up in green.

Model, Animation: Captain Xavious, Texture: Azarael, Coding: Luneshot, Azarael, Effects: Luneshot

Image
E58 Raygun: A compact energy weapon. Primary charges a shot with high damage and a radius blast which uses quadratic falloff. Secondary fires energy projectiles. In Irradiation mode, the projectiles travel more quickly but do less damage. Irradiation charged projectiles irradiate enemies, causing them to take damage over time. The effect is passed to allies of the target which come too close. The altfire of this mode extends the duration of irradiation. This weapon is also equipped with a shield, activated using the Weapon Special key. While active, the user is immune to any indirect damage which armor would stop, such as fire and explosions. The primary is, however, locked while this mode is in use.

Model, Animation: Blade Sword, Texture, Coding, Effects: Azarael

Image
CX61 Tactical Rifle: A close-range assault rifle. Standard automatic fire on primary. Secondary can switch between two modes: a flamethrower of short duration or healing gas able to cure teammates.

Model, Texture, Coding: Azarael Animation: Captain Xavious

Image
FMD H14 Combat Defibrillator: A set of electrified gauntlets. The primary fire punches the enemy for meagre damage and blinding. The secondary fire is an uppercut which deals more damage and can expend charge to generate a shockwave. Both these modes heal allies. The weapon special function blocks melee and additionally generates shockwaves, shielding the user frontally and damaging enemies / healing nearby allies.

Model, Animation: Captain Xavious, Texture: ShadowBlade, Coding: Captain Xavious, Azarael

This release is a port from BallisticPro, which is our initial development platform; therefore, while it has been bug tested online and offline, there could be bugs. We don't consider it likely though.

We follow a policy of releasing content as and when it's completed.

We develop only for Ballistic Fix and BallisticPro. This release is for Ballistic Fix, and will not work with any other version of BW.

Really nice weapons here. I've had the privilege of playing with them all already and they are great fun.

Thanks to everyone involved for bringing this one to the community

Hopefully there is more to come

Does this work with vanilla BW 2.5 or only with fix? Because the weapons don't show up in my BW.

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

Yes it works based on fix as mentioned
You can't use vanilla for it.

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

Now that I tried these weapons, I'm gonna give my honest opinion on them. As a whole, these weapons are fun to use.

In order:

CX85 Combat Rifle:

This is one of my favorite weapons in the pack, and one of the only weapons that doesn't have a semi auto function. The scope looks nice, sounds are good and I especially love the alt fire/ special function combo, even if it is hard to get enough darts in a bad guy to blow them sky high.

PD-97 "Bloodhound" Pistol:

Very hard to use in Deathmatch scenarios, but given that it's more of a support weapon than a direct combat weapon, it's understandable. Tazer is a bit hard to work with, but when it hits, man does it slow enemies well. I can see it being useful in CTF or BR.

Le Big XOXO:

The weirdest weapon in the pack, but in a good way. The Bomb mode is hard to use at first, but it's easy to learn. Ironsights aren't aligned to the crosshair though. And dat sexplosion is wreck sauce.

AN-56 Akeron Launcher:

While I do love the model for this weapon, I can't help but get the feeling this is like the Shock and Awe from Sgt. Kelly's pack. It can fire rockets one at a time or in a continuous fashion like the S&A, and it also fires guided rockets just like the S&A.

Speaking of the Guided Mode, I find it useless, as it it just leaves you wide and exposed to enemy fire for a rocket that can barely be guided, maybe like an inch or so. It's just better off to use primary fire only and leave the Alt fire alone.

All in all, an OK weapon, but feels the same to another weapon.

MAU-52 Designator:

Fun weapon to use, love sending MOABS on the enemy team, but you can't pick up extra ammo from ammo packs, intentional or no?

This is a good pack so far, just giving my two cents.

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

The Akeron was initially modelled to be the weapon you speak of, near the end of our collaboration. With no sign of a finished Shock and Awe in sight, and with a gameplay need for our server for a guided rocket launcher slash cover penetrator, we implemented the model as the Akeron.

No reference was made to the Shock and Awe's implementation whatsoever during the development of the weapon. Part of the reason the Akeron uses a forward-directed cover-penetrating blast on both its fire modes, making it useless for ground fire, is to differentiate it from the S&A's raw explosive rockets. Otherwise, there is no copyright on the idea of a guided missile launcher, which is a common element in a lot of games and is implemented by the Redeemer, whose code has served as the base for all guided rocket launchers.

The Akeron's guided mode is poor on indoor maps, but has incredible potential on open long-range maps for which it is designed. Before releasing our content, we balance it in online gameplay to ensure that the modes are viable. We do play Freon mostly, however - guided rockets are not to be employed in DM or TDM. They work well in gametypes like TAM, Freon and Conflict where you can be covered and attack many targets from the safety of long range.

I'm glad to hear your positive feedback on the other weapons, however. :)

No problem. :)

And if the Akeron is now the Shock and Awe, that's A-OK with me. :)

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

I expect that you'll still see a Shock and Awe, as it seems superweapon-class as opposed to the Akeron, which is normal-weapon class.

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

Good point.

A minor (and by minor I mean extremely little) Nitpick is just with the weapon info on the weapons tab in the options menu, usually it goes like this:

Weapon Name

Company:

Primary Fire:
Alt Fire:
Special:

<Insert Backstory here>

But with your weapons, all it is just back stories.

It's not a gigantic problem, just wanted to mention it.

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

We created the section headers for primary, secondary and additional information to eliminate the need to specify that format. We'll probably rework the existing descriptions later to correspond to that.

We're aiming for Blade's Raygun next update. Things should be picking up pace now.

Thanks for the feedback! The Bloodhound definitely is not a great weapon for 1on1 fights, but my thought is that if you rarely use your sidearm slot in Loadout, this gives you a nice bit of utility to pull out when you need it without having to sacrifice a primary for similar effects.

Welcome. :)

Yeah, the Bloodhound is not a weapon meant for Deathmatch, for one v one, two v one...

I wonder what the Reagan Raygun will do?

Post subject:  Re: [BWFix] That Other Weapon Pack

Actually we are kind of conceiving the raygun to be interesting, but well I can tell that it won't be a simple laser / plasma pistol
It will do something special, I prefer to not reveal what it exactly does as it's part of the surprise :) People waited soo much for it and me too that it finally become reality

I tested the Akeron Laucher in offline mode and it seems I can't control the alt-fire missile. It just goes straight forward. Fresh install with the fix and the weapon pack, nothing else.

That raygun looks like from Fallout 1-2 :)

Question, do you plan to port other weapons from Ballistic Pro to Fix? Desert Eagles, CYLO-s, FN2000 (MARS), and other things from Sergeant Kelly's Weapon Pack? These weapons are cool, but having another BW fork for them adds duplicated BW weapons and gamemodes that create confusion. Also I trying make this by myself, but lack in programming skills causes problems with porting.

The question is asked very often, and the answer is the same: we want to do so and are prepared to do the work, but permission must be given for us to do anything. The only weapons in the Recolors pack that we can say for sure were made by TOWP members only are the CX61 and the FMD H14 Combat Defibrillators, which will now become part of TOWP in the next release. Otherwise, all of the other weapons have, in varying degrees, contributions from members of the Recolors pack and at this point I do not want to cause any issues by porting any such content to the fix without the whole situation regarding support having been resolved. The only other weapon I would take a chance on is the CYLO Firestorm V, as it is Xavious' concept model with my improvements, my texturing, Xavious' animations, my upgraded melee functionality, my rewriting of a lot of its code with what's left being either trivial or basically modified RS code, it's pending a new altfire (no, not the explosive slug mode stopgap that currently exists) and I'm told the sounds were from ShadowBlade. I don't think it particularly fair to withhold that.

If you've played BallisticPro, you'll know that a number of the Recolors weapons have additional functionality or were completely reworked, the FSSG-50 (incendiary alt-fire), FG50 (overdrive overheating alt-fire), MARS-2 (smoke launcher for synergy) and MARS-3 ("Snowstorm" implementation with cryo grenade) being the most obvious examples. While for obvious reasons I'd like to see the ports have similar expanded functionality (with full reworks like the Snowstorm being separate weapons) that, too, would need to be discussed. As BallisticPro will always, always sacrifice realism for the sake of promoting more interesting and unique weapons, there may need to be some explanations conjured up as to how the FSSG-50 works, for example.

Death message time! Since I use simple death messages all the time, I don't have much passion for writing them.

Raygun irradiation (plague) shots (charged and regular). Go!

Normal:

Azarael had a laser-phaser gun and shot Xan in the head.

Xan's life was abducted by Azarael's Ray gun.

Azarael gave Xan a demonstration in extraterrestrial weaponry by blasting him.

And Xan ran, but he couldn't get away from Azarael's Ray gun.

Charged:

Azarael turned Xan to ash with a Charged Ray Gun.

The Xan wall was brought down by Azarael's Charged Ray gun.

Xan got alienated to death by Azarael's zappy gun.

Azrael's charged raygun liquefied Xan to a puddle.

Radiation:

Xan was cured of cancer, but died to Azarael's Radiation.

Azarael erased Xan's DNA with some alien radiation.

Xan's corpse glowed brightly after Azarael's alien gun blasted him.

There were no lead walls to save Xan from Azarael's Radiation.

Some ideas:

Normal:

[Killer] put some Pew Pew in [Killed]'s body.
[Killer] tested succesfully his/her/its/xyr alien technology in [Killed].
[Killed] was technicoloured by [Killer].

Charged:

[Killer] emulated a famous Japanese anime with [Killed].
[Killer] sent a charged ticket to [Killed]'s afterlife.
[Killed] was charged in a sci-fi manner by [Killer]'s raygun.
(Suicide) [Killed] thrusted his/her/its/xyr torso by him/her/it/xyrself.

Radiation:

[Killer] submitted [Killed] to a deadly shock therapy.
The living cells in [Killed] were dropped to 0 by [Killer].
The [Killed]'s Geiger counter was overcharged by [Killer]'s radiactive blast.
(Suicide) [Killed] tried to find the cure of cancer.

That CYLO UAW in PRO (aka MkI) with redesigned model looks nice too, better than variant in SKBP, now UAW and Firestorm V are different looking weapons, not just reskin. :)

That Raygun is Blade sword model? Interesting do you plan in future add more his weapons? X-24 Assault Gauss Rifle and X500 lasers look nice.
