You might be asking yourself what the term 'going solo' means in the context of The Crucible. What if I said that it will no longer be a mere mod or TC, but an entirely standalone game with its own executable? Or what if I said that it will be pure Crucible goodness in a brand new package, without any UT3 content in there polluting the end result? That's right, Runestorm are currently hard at work to bring The Crucible to UDK (Unreal Development Kit), the platform that Epic Games released not too long ago. Once the work is finished and made available to the fans, players will no longer need UT3, or any Unreal Engine 3 game for that matter, to play The Crucible anymore. All you will need is to download, install and play away.
One of the Runestorm brothers, BlackEagle, posted a status report on the project in our forum recently with some exciting updates. Quote is below:

I just thought i'd keep you all up to date on what we are doing with The Crucible...
First off, many things have been added, and many improvments have been made. Including a splash screen for getting into the game, a loading movie for getting into maps, and even an intro movie, altough it's not working so well and might not stay, it uses the old trailer for The Crucible anyway.
However we do have a full set of option menus in the UI now, only one UI scene remains that is not ours, and may go soon too.
You can now have multiple 'Profiles' on your PC, all of which store a different name, character, and list of settings.
You can also adjust your name and character in-game now, and have it take effect right away, although you must die to change your char, but you can see your char in the menu in-game..
Some improvements have been made to gametypes, but little has changed there, i've been too busy getting the old things working on the UDK as it is..
However, our maps have improved drastically in the way they look, now that the technology has been upgraded in the UDK, our maps feature alot of that technology..
I'm afraid music is pretty much gone, and some things still need work, but overall, things are looking good, and i hope to have it done in the coming weeks, so with anyluck you can find it together with Epic's Bonus pack of games...
Meanwhile, our other project is coming along nicely, and we hope to have something to show soon, although there is alot to get done, and until the ground work is complete, there will be little to see..
All in all, this year promises to be full of new and better stuff, and we will keep you informed with whatever usefull updates we can give..
You can discuss these exciting news in this thread on our forum.
