I'm making a new map, urban style. The gameplay is designed for normal UT2004 weapons, but it can be used for BW too. I got the idea for this map from Half Life 2's city. I've started making this map today. So this work you see is made in less than 8 hours I think. There are Sewers and an Underground highway so far. I really need suggestions for my map, to make it better. Graphics and Gameplay, so if you see anything that could be improved, or you have an idea for another room, please tell me. Here's some screenies of the two rooms I got so far:
Really, if you think I should add chains to the walls and ceilings or anything, tell me. I will add this map to my Map Pack aswell, I just see it as a good map to come

You sure you made this in 8 hours? I think it looks like about a day or two was taken here! Edit: One thing, it's a little too bright for my liking. |

I'm really telling the truth, I've made this in less than 8 hour. I'm adapting some things atm now, adding more ways up in the sewer. I'm quick with making stuff, and I've took a look at DM-Asbestos. I copied the ceiling style a bit, but changed it slightly so it fits in more. The street didn't take long to make at all, really quick actually. Its the sewer i'm building longest on. Err... Wich parts are too bright? All or only some parts? |

The road section. I like the darkness HL2's underground highway was. Made it fun to fight Zombine and Combine soldiers in. Edit: Now that I think of it, the only part I like the lighting for being perfect and not bright is the last pic. That one has good lighting, the rest is too bright. Double Edit: Also, maybe it would help if you have a file of this map, even though it's not done. I like to test maps out than just look at pics. |

Ok I've editted the lighting around a bit. I left the corridor, I liked it too much
I'll send up the map so far tomorrow... I've got an unfinished corridor and I'm gonna watch a movie atm.

Bulska wrote: Really, if you think I should add chains to the walls and ceilings or anything, tell me. No, a relatively clean UT99ish look suits the theme just fine imo. I hate those "industrial" 2K3/4 maps that have pointless "ornaments" all over the place, looks cluttered and kills fps. OCAdam wrote: I like the darkness HL2's underground highway was. Lol, you said "zombies". But good point, some more darkness (all over, not just that one section) wouldn't hurt. And some flickering, dying lights here & there... Indeed, lighting is very important, can make or break a map.

In my time mapping, I haven't really build many maps that are meant to play the gametypes in. Most maps are to mess around with and experiment with all the features of UT2004. Lighting is a hard thing to make... But I see it's a little too bright, overal brightness is crap. But dark and light parts close to each other makes it better. Ok, I've improved many things... But that damn flickering light doesn't work... I never understood how to activate that stupid special thing with light. Anyways... I've added abaddon vehicles, fire and I adjusted the lighting. Here's map. Oh, go shooting loose stuff to, they might fall [br]File: 1170589585_204_FT26866_dm-belowurban.zip

I like the new hallway. Good lighting too. Try changing the ZoneInfo light amount to zero so the only way to light the level is by sunlight or those lights you added. That works wonders! |

If you play the map you'll notice waterfalls... players are small enough to fit trough the small pipes blocking the path... I'm going to place a blocking volume... Anyways, that new hallway went into a curve... that took time to make. It looks wicked now, and I only have ambient brightness in rooms where you can see the Backdrop. Looks more real than only sunlight. |

Nice… You might add a subway, with a train that is either derailed, or one that runs through at full speed flatting any bot in its path ….or both
One other thing if this is going to be a HL2 type of thing, could you block off one road with a police barricade with some auto guns that kill anyone who gets too close? Maybe even some bots with M50s’ that’ll open up if you get too close. Anyway looking good |

*MAP UPDATE* I've finished the newest hallway, and it just looks wicked compared to the rest of what I've achieved so far. Damn that curve, he won't let my textures sit right. Anyways... here's the map again. Look at the place where the water goes away in the hallway, whooo lights! You'd better gimme the Grenade Launcher or something up there, or a Mine Layer. ML if you want to have the special feel of Minefields or the GL for the Halo feel of blowing crap up with sticky 'nades. |
