All right....Finally!!

My newest map infestation has just been put up on nali city and should be availible in about 2 days

It has new stuff that i havnt done before like a cubemap and beating animated hearts....

However it did not turn out aswell as i hoped... due to the fact that it really needed optamization, but is now faster but still slow, Still worth a try though

It has the armor shards from DS (Deadly Shores) 2 and some coded exploding sack things...

I've seen the CubeMap textures... but what they do I dont know... What does a CubeMap do?

And I can't wait to see the map, from what I'm hearing here it will look great

Well basically it makes like a reflection on objects and can make someshiny effects (IE you know bw's weapons are shiny well they use a cubmap then taken and comined with a shader but first you have to make a ENVmap texture and select the caBUMAP YOU MADE the cumbemap take six textures you make or pick and turn it into a kind of reflection mine only has 1 picture instead of six....

I'm sorry to say, but I see many bugs and bad stuff in your map... althou it can be my PC.

The dark spots you said are good for camping aren't dark at all
And it is a little big map for the suggested player count.

I've checked up in the editor, and the cause for most problems. (such as staticmeshes dissapearing when too far in the hallway)

Every Geomatry is a staticmesh, which isn't too usefull. It is needed for the cavern-like organism, but then you can use a large substract brush which is just big enough for the staticmesh to fit in.

I've also noticed that the spikes block my path frequently... Perhaps a terrain would've been better for the floors, and then staticmeshes for the ceilings. The spikes should be staticmeshes apart from the ceiling and non-collide with objects, so you won't be blocked by them.

But apart from some bad things, the idea is very good and very original. I also like the use of the vents, to jump down on a enemy without getting noticed.

it reminded me to Doom3 goo everywhere, AlienSwarm goo crawling over the walls and that level in Unreal 2, where a planet is covered by one huuge organism.

I really like the organism light blobs... Are they emitters? They look awesome!

I have to say, this is a really nice map. Good idea and overall quality.

But there is one thing I love about this map...

The T10 is actually more tactical for once! Thank god!

However, when I was playing Last Man Standing, I couldn't find the last guy. Maybe if the map were a little more linear...

Interesting map there, is it organic like the body of the Many in System Shock 2, or the fleshplanet from Unreal 2?

That seems to happen alot in RS maps.

Non-linearity is more fun from my point of view.

Yeah, but it does get annoying when a bot gets stuck somewhere and you can never find him (say when playing TAM).

put in a time limit if it's not a linear map, so the searching will end once.

Ye those GD static meshes dissapear at odd places and look black because of wierd rendering problems... SB suggested i make floor out of BSP but it is much better using statics for everything.

But if the alien objects were not on the floor THERE WOULD BE NO COVER!!...

The the theme was not planed on doom3 or unreal 2 but SB gave me the idea for the small lights... in the human area..

And the alien lights are moving static meshes they use rotation settings...

Ye ive had thim map going befor deadly shores 1 so its plan has been around for LONG time...

As for that screwy maping thing OOPS i noticed it and i could easily be fixed but MEH...

I suggest you take care of any bugs or flaws, or at least try your best. Just releasing a map and then never look back despite bug reports, is generally a sign of a mapper's lack of dedication or even lazyness.

You say everything staticmeshes is good, well, it isn't

Lighting will suck.
Bugs with textures appear.
Stuff dissapearing.

Just to name a few bugs. If you made the human hallways brushes, it would look much better then it does now. THe alien stuff should indeed stay staticmesh.

Honestly, just looking at X's screenshots, the static meshes were most likely made in UEd. If not.... err... uh... they look like it. There is a point of using TOO many static meshes, and it seems like you did.

Don't be judging anything from my screen shots, I got really low graphics settings on.

But anyways, whats with all the negativity? Am I the only one that likes this map or something?

I can't help but wonder if the above graphics-whores only point out bad graphics and don't even write a word about the actual gameplay.

Nah, it's the jaggedness that is there on all settings. You can kinda tell.



My bit is on the performance of the map, not the actual perfect looks. Using too many static meshes at once (read: same area) can make a map run very slow. And gameplay-wise... too many leads to obstacles that don't help the gameplay, as said above by Bulska. It'd be another thing is there were large objects used for cover, but small things that aren't good cover, and just seem to block paths are not good.

Ok.. well lets see.. maybe doom3 would have been better with just BSP!! i suposse... and i see your problems and i would fix stuff.. if it wehere really DIRE..

Maybe ill fix it up.. but it still plays well it's just really slow, This place was a BIG!! lesson for me in how to make a good map, this map was NOT good but gave ma alot of info on stuff and i like your complaintes they tell me somthing of what you find (BAD) and i shal improve in future..

Well if i made the whole human area BSP the place would have holes in the walls, it would have lighting seems, it would be slower if it had as much detail, not to mention the overall crudeness and lack of point for making a BSP map... Statics are better if optimized right AND as you can see this map was NOT!!..

Good that you've learned something about it Thats the point in making maps, getting expierence.

But I don't see why people should use staticmeshes rather then BSP in their maps. Using BSP for the hallways, rooms and rough detailing is what I do, and then to finish it up by adding staticmeshes to create details and fill up empty spaces.

That is the whole point of static meshes afaik; detailing. Rooms should always be BSP, lighting will look better and so will the FPS number.
