Okay GUYS!!! BIG NOTICE!!!

I have started the map again from SCRATCH!

As Hoplite was nearing first beta I felt that something was wrong... When i got the first palyable version working... I realised the problem... The scale was too small... And just sizing up the map wouldnt work... The BSP had become messy by then and it would be too dificult to go through making everything larger. So instead I have started again! Making sure this time that the scale is playable!

While this is definately going to slow down production, I already have the layout and after all that time working with BSP, I can make things more quickly, more cleanly and better looking! This time I am adding in things that really should have been there last time... Archways! Plus I have decided to go with a full greek theme!

I will post some pics of the new map soon!

can you tell me what you think of the layout (as best you can with pics) does it looked to cramped? too open?

when i have the other two areas in rough ill give you a pic of the whole area.

If this new UnrealEd is anything like the previous ones, you should be able to align the textures in the surface's properties.

SX: Im wont make it an mayan arena but as i said i will improve the visuals greatly. This is a pre-alpha build where i am just starting to work on the layout.

Ok guys! just got back from holiday! I have been working on this quite alot since and the first layout is weally neally done (i say first as undoubtedly people will find faults with it)...

There is a really cool indoor bit with a really high ceiling with a really cool window sort of thing that i am quite proud of!

Have finally finished the main hall area!!! Take a nice long look! remeber these are still pre alpha shots though! Still need to build some more areas and then start to add in details.

okay! I really need your help on this one! Out of the two top pics which do you prefer, rounded pillars or the square ones?

one person has said that the rounded pillars would be better if they were larger, what is your view on this, also do you think the rest of the map would need a more rounded look if i did this?

You also see a little bit of texture work has been done, the grey tiles have been replaced with a black texture. Do prefer the old or the new?

Do you think the ramp in the main hall should be replaced with stairs. some people have said this would be more in keeping with the roman theme.

And finally, can you think of anything to fill the grey square you see on the two pics at the top of the page, some suggestions have been a pool or a fountain.

Any help is greatly apreciated! And the person will get a mention in the readme.

Well, judging from the screenshot, I think I like the square pillars, and maybe make them a bigger like that one person suggested, but I'd have to see it before I can say for certain on that bit.

I'd say stairs would be much more fitting than ramps in most instances if this is a Roman themed map.

It looks pretty cool, but I'm having a hard time loading these pictures (blame my dial-up connection). Looks like a pretty cool map though.

Yeah I would go for the square ones. And use stairs too.

Most UT3 maps have rounded looks... And I don't really like that much, UT2004 had much more solid edges in it, made every detail clearer to see.

So far it looks like a good map. Maybe some more detail, in the style of how many ancient cultures did with their architecture.

Xav: I think I will go with square pillars as the vast majority said they prefered that. I will start replacing the ramps straight away as most people agreed with you on that point as well!

Bulska: As i am going with square pillars I wont have to make rounded edges now anyway. Im glad you like the look of the map so far, and dont worry about more detail. Im gonna start adding that as soon as i finish the layout.

Okay! Im gonna post some more pics, with some new texturing I have done. There are two varients, The white tiles or the cream texture. Can you tell me which you prefer. Thanks!

second pic, for sure.

I know something cool for your map, I did it with one of my not released maps. Make a sort of 'sign' which the players can find all around the map. Maybe use the top view of the map if you can't think of anything.

Then remake the picture with tiles on the floor in a big area. People who keep their eyes open have a map to check at. Plus it looks cool seeing such symbols everywhere. xD

I think I like the original brick texture better. The other one is pretty good, but not for the really big surfaces, doesn't look quite as good then. Maybe if you used both textures, with the bricks for the larger areas and the newer texture for smaller areas, like on the triangle area that serves as the front of the roof. Really hard to describe with words. :p

heheh. I have had lots of conflicting opinions on this . :D personally I prefer the cream texture, but i do liek the other one as well. Ill try to implement them both in a way that makes sense!

Bulska: thats an awesome idea thanks a bunch! Now i have a way to break up the floor space as well!!!
