m1896 swedish mauser! Its in great shape for a 100 dollar, 93 year old rifle. I just need a completely new rear sight assembly. The original owner damaged them with a scope he mounted on there, the rest of the rifle is still intact and no other metal was harmed. Im having a bit of a hard time locating the parts that I need though. Enjoy the pics. |

The damage doesn't look that bad. For the time being (and the price!), it is definitely a nice rifle. |

I say the light damage gives it a 'genuine' feel. |

the damage was done by someone when it came into america, not by a soldier, so that means for the time being untill i replace that part, its unusable. I did find a it thought on the internet i just have to order it. |

No, that's quite common for such an old piece of (powerfull) killing hardware. The rear sight (photo 2 and 3) is broke. It seems that there's a part missing that should slide in. Next to that, it should be able to stand right up. Smash presents the rear sight suggesting that it won't stay up like it should. |

Is the damage not the groves cut out at the end of the ramp as well as the missing slider? |

I don't know about that, it does seem different from the other marks on the wood. |

The grooves were done when someone mounted a scope onto the rear sight, they also removed the slider, and the rear sight leaf spring which keeps tension on the rear sight and keeps it from bouncing around. Im ordering parts today, hopefuly they still have the parts. Other then that, its in Very good condition. |

Just picked the bayonet up from the guy too. its in nice shape, hard to believe the leather is 91 years old. The blade, hilt, and scabbard match, but the frog was redone sometime after ww2 for use with the semi auto rifle. Still the bayonet is correct for the gun so im happy.... just ordered a sling and oil bottle for it as well that way it will have the deal. |

Why would i do that. I removed an old scope it had on it. I dont plan on shooting this rifle much, might try it out deer hunting this year though. These are extremely accurate rifles, the Swedish really knew how to make them. |

Well thetrunkmonkey if you live in the US you can go to a sporting goods store that sells firearms and pick up a Mosin Nagant for about 100 bucks, comes with the sling, oil bottle, ammo pouch, bayonet (depending on model) and cleaning kit. Currently I own 10 Mosin Nagant rifles, all still work and the dates range form the 1890's to the late 1940's I guess it just depends on what you want! Oh yes I won that table in a competion a while back. Amazing table, light weight, lots of accesories, not much range but its simple

If only I was allowed to have more than 10 firearms in total... |

So, what does one do with such a rifle? Are you gonna shoot targets with it or display it? |

Yeah thats a bummer Chavez, What country are you in? Sometimes you can find these funny little legal loopholes. Target shoot, display, hunt, research etc. I do a lot of things with these rifles, all legal of course, i just figure it was made to be shot... so shoot it!

Now we combined the two licenses in a family license. The amount of guns we can have is still 10, but instead of 5+5 (which means I can only use my 5, and my dad can only use his 5), we have 10 in total, meaning we can use each other's guns now too. We keep 2 slots open though, he is designing his own rifle, and I'll be designing the AM67 in real, though instead of .50 I will use 7.62x52. A real wrist cracker
