Went to a gun show here in Michigan (Biggest show ive ever been to, it was packed) There were also a LOT of rifles there ranging from the Lee enfield to the ak-47 to the luger.... C96 broomhandles, Chinese C96's... Arisakas... ALL sorts of stuff to be had. (Including some BS from quite a few dealers)

I was walkin along the tables lookin at ammo, bayonets, gear, boots, GUNS (of course) helmets, Badges... all sorts of goodies and out the corner of my eye I see that little jungle carbine... a Rifle designed by the British for soldiers who were fighting in areas like japan and Indonesia etc... Its a whole two pounds lighter then the standard model (pictured above) and was fitted with a hard rubber butt pad to help absorb recoil. There was also a Conical flash suppressor attached to the shorter barrel as well.

Also they did something similar to what Nascar does on their race cars to lighten them up by stripping as much weight as possible from the parts without compromising integrity. The British milled out steel from the barrel, receiver, bolt knob, magazine housing, stock bolt, sear, trigger, and trigger guard, they even carved wood from under the butt plate to make it hollow and reduce weight.

The guy selling it had it marked at 475 dollars... (ouch... but that is the going price for them so its not horrible to some people) BUT in this part of Michigan there are not a whole bunch of people who care about the enfield... so he couldnt sell it and had it marked to 375 (thats lookin a LOT better) I walked over to him and asked about the rifle... said everything checked out safe... so I asked if I could possibly get it for a lower price... He thought about it and said he'd take 320 (WOW big price drop) told him Id think about it and get back with him in a little while.

Kept lookin around and listening to BS form dealers trying to sell me second grade ammo or guns... But i kept lookin over my shoulder to make sure that jungle carbine was still there. After talking with my dad about it we decided to go ahead and grab it. Gave him the cash and went home. Spent 3 hours cleaning it, then shot it, then spent 3 more hours cleaning it (its not very fun the second time) then today i spent a couple hours cleaning it up...

Been researching it as well, turns out this was made at the British small arms factory in Shirley UK. Made in1945 near the end of the war.

Hope you enjoy the pics and the little story.

Great pictures...by the way, are you experiencing ammo shortages for civvies in your area of the USA? New Jersey's running dry...
People seem to be making rushes on ammo stores because of a supposed restriction law President Obama's going to put in place.

I was but I think its trickling back in around here. Im happy I got quite a bit of ammo before this whole ammo grab started.

british .303 is pretty hard for me to get and the stuff i can get is some crappy Pakistani ammo that hangs fire rather consistently (click...... BOOOM) but when its all i got access to currently id better not complain.

New jersey is pretty strict when it comes to gun laws and gun control, so odds are its gonna be one of the first states that really starts putting outright bans on firearms and ammo. New york isnt the greatest either as its pretty strict as well. California is probably one of the worst along with washington.

Yeah they just put out the Assault weapons ban quite some time ago. I've a buddy who lives in NJ who had a whole stockpile of AK-47, AK variants, UZI's, and some other 7.62 bolt action rifles and he had to go take those straight into PA.
How long till you think the companies start managing to keep up with demand?
We just managed to start up a shooting team at our university ( :) ) and are trying to get our hands on some good ol'.22's and are getting help from local NRA reps, but so far, we aint found any yet.

How much cash do you have to work with, If your trying to get into competition your gonna need some good gear. From jackets that muffle the heart beat, gloves, glasses, targets, guns, ammo etc. Spose you could try pawnshops, gunshops, sporting good stores, gun shows etc.

Odds are, then major manufacturers are already caught up, what your seeing is just their crooked way to make money.

There hasnt been a new assault weapons ban yet, bush let the old one drop after its 12 year expiration date (one of the only good things he managed) but now Obama wants to make a new one... Some say Obama doesnt want guns or anything and he doesnt want bans and stuff.... but he did elect the guy that WROTE the first assault weapons ban as his Vice President. So... yeah.

We have a couple of grand to work with, and we got special deals with the NRA- they're renting us a couple of rifles, all we need to do is take the usual individual tests, learning etc over the course of 2 days then off we go!
So we're going to spend that couple grand on the training (uuuggghhh. 24 hours learning about the safety catch of a .22), and buying equipment :)
I'm personally hoping that we progress to 5.56 in about 2 months from learning .22 :) We have what looks to be a good team in the making- one dude who's a national shotist, another's entering SEAL school, couple of marksmen, etc.

Well sounds like its gonna be a decent team then. if you wanna switch to 5.56 you should try to get sponsored as buying 5.56 out of your own pocket (or the universities) is gonna be VERY VERY costly.

Hopefully. I'm pushing for more funding from either the school or some sort of grant from the NRA so we'll have the flexibility to stock 5.56mm for the future.

Well good luck with it. Surplus is gonna be around after the War starts winding down, so its not gonna be TOO hard to get... just gonna be tricky right now.

How come you only buy/get old rifles? :?

Because the old ones are a cut above the new ones when it comes to qaulity. Also there is a lil something you get with these rifles that you dont get with the new ones... a little piece of history. That rifle was used by a Tommy to help him destroy his enemy and protect the crown...Them Tupperware AR-15s were made in a factory, put in a box, sent to Cabellas, marked up twice of what they are worth, then sold off to someone who thinks he's the coolest because he saw his gun in Call of Duty 4.

Pluss id rather not spend 1500 dollars for an AR-15, CETME, etc. etc.
