![]() ![]() ![]() Heres a little something from Finland. A Finn mosin nagant m39. 1943 barrel with a 1926 receiver. Finland would often capture Russian rifles and rework them into far superior weaponry. These usually go for like 300-350 but i got it for 125 so i got quite the deal. Im a happy boy. |

Yeah the Russian counter parts are fairly common, but these m39s are gettin scarce and pricey. Thats why I had to pick this one up to go with its 11 Russian cousins in my safe. |

Ooh, looks nice. I this surplus or did it see action in the war? Looks like it has its fair share of scratches on the stock. |

It is a surplus rifle and it did see action, mainly against the soviet union as Finland and Russia were NOT the best of friends. Often the Fins would pick up Russian Mosin Nagants (also Italian Carcanos sometimes too) and send them back to their armorers where they were reworked, accurized, and restocked in some cases until the rifle shot about 1.5" groups at about 100 yards. These are pretty much the TOP of the line Mosin Nagant and if you see one for under 300 dollars... you best either buy it or get the guys name as these are hard to find. I believe the Total production numbers were like 103,000 or so. (they had other models of the same action that they issued) and they kept production going (slowly) up until the 1970s, but by this time it was only used as a target/marksman's rifle. Im still learning about these Mosin Nagant variants but its all good fun. I think they used like pine sap, turpentine, and some sort of caustic stuff to give the stock a darker color. |

Ukko-pekka is a finish nickname for the M39. Just like a T34 was a Sotka. |

Sargeant Smash wrote: ok, but what does Ukko-Pekka mean? No idea. All I know is that Sotka means duck, since T34s do sort of look like a duck when seen side on. |

Yeah now that you mention it, they kinda do look like a duck. a heavily armed and armored duck that kills tigers. |
