I have been working on this gun for my Computer Graphics class. Its kinda rough, quickly put together. But i think it looks pretty damn good. Any tips on how to use the newest blender release? Here are a few pics, and a download link. Hope this works... http://www.mediafire.com/?fezmznzzoh2 |

Good tip to use. You know by The pistol grip is seams a bit choppy/blocky. Select them and select ... set smooth. it makes them a lot smoother without adding any verts. (Y) Good job BTW |

Select the face's you want to aper smooth. Hit the 'w' Key. Go near the bottom and it should say 'Set smooth'. |

There is now a new scope, and i checked much things, but it still keeps on happening! Now the outside is missing! Can someone download this .blend file and help fix it up? Ok, select your mesh, go to edit mode. Under the editing tab for the Buttons menu (F9), there is a box called Mesh Tools More. Click the button Draw Normals. You may need to increase the NSize in order to see it, but there will be little light Blue Lines coming out of the faces. This shows which direction they face. For the faces that don't show in render, check if those lines are on the right side or not. If they are not on the right side, select the face(s), then click Mesh > Normals > Flip. Hopefully that fixes it. Attachment: Normals - Blender.jpg

Good start! Much, much, much better than my first model. My first model was so strange One suggestion to find wrond normals: In the bottom, in the buttons menu, there is a button "Set Smooth" (actually TurdDrive button is only "smooth"). it will make the gun appear "soft". Maybe you will notice that there is some faces that are strange: Attachment: smoothbug.PNG Now take a look: Attachment: Smoothbug2.PNG These lines show where the face is pointing. the faces that were strange in object mode are actually inverted normals( Normals is the name of the direction a face/polygon is pointing) pointing inside. The other ones are ok, as you can see. So just select the wrong faces, click "W" and "Flip Normals". edit: Oh, just saw that you're using blender 2.5.... Unfortunately I don't know how to see normals in 2.5 ( I don't know if it's implemented) so If you want you can download the latest version before 2.5, so that you can fix it. I have both 2.5 and 2.49, so it's possible to have both. |

Ah, ok. It's because in one of the posts you said "press W", so I thought you were referring to the other one |

Well, assuming it didn't change from v2.49, in the 3D View window, switch your view to a Side or Front Ortho view (Num Pad 1 or 3) and then click View > Background Image. A box comes up, click the Use Background Image button, Click the Load button, find your image, then adjest settings and you should be good. However, if it did change, than I can't help you much. |

This is my first try after a previous attempt, yeah I think my missile cannon is too complicated for my actual skills and knowledge about blender so I tried this one Attachment: gun test.JPG The weapon isn't finished, it lacks of a loader, barrel, front grip, and a lot of details I don't know if people will recognize what I'm trying to do, but that's a simple weapon and that's why I choose it as my first model I hope this time I would be able to finish it, then if I do I will try something else. |
