maybe theres a loop hole in the bots coding you could use, i am no coder so thats just an idea.

It is all a question of what the engine offers, I bet RS could do some nifty AI changes with UE3.0...

RS will be able to DO anything with UE3... at this they'll be able to when it comes out.

By the time UT2007 gets released, a 7950 GX2 will cost less than $200 most likely. Not a bad deal eh?

Bots will always move differently than humans because it is just too much work to program an effective free-will code for AI.

Firstly, hey all! Only just recently re-installed UT2k4 and got the mod/mutator bug Stumbled across Ballistic and I have to say it's probably the best non TC modification I've ever played!

I don't find the bots too bad to be honest. I've never been a massive online player, as alot of the time I get put up against people who play UT 25 hours a day and kill me in about a second hehe.

I've found a few glitches here and there, where bots get stuck riding lifts, or they camp out in places I'm not even likely to find em and don't budge for the whole game. But these are few and far between.

I've found the best way to play is put the bots on adept or higher, with auto adjust turned on, and...here's the most important part...turn off the crosshair! Even 1 on 1 battles against a bot are big epic firefights; running around with your gun at your side squeezing off a few rounds, then lining up a good clean shot with your gun sights. Fun. So much fun in fact, I'm gunna go play now.

Turning off the crosshair would make a pretty fun change, but I don't think I'd ever hit anything without it...

Hey Bjossi! Ahh you'd be surprised! IMO it actually adds extra importance to the fire modes and gunsights in Ballistic, and - with regards to Bots not putting up a fight - really balances out the odds. Like if I'm in close quarters with a bot, the gunsight obviously changes the FOV slightly and restricts view, so I keep it at the side in full auto spraying bullets everywhere hehe. If I'm further away I switch to burst or semi-auto so my aim doesnt get knocked all over the shop, and getting a precise shot becomes alot more...tense, than just pointing the crosshair where you wanna shoot, and clicking. It becomes more about timing, and instinct.

As a side note; started noticing that after some time, in a 1 on 1, the bot just starts running away and hiding!! Don't know if this would happen anyway of if it's Ballistic related. I'll try turning off the auto adjust and see.

You have a point there.
By the way, if the bots run away it must mean you are a very good player.

I wonder if even bots that faltality plays against run away from him? Maybe they just forfiet at the start.

Perhaps Epic included a code that bots don't attempt to fight the one that has the player name Fatal1ty.

Back on topic... one of the most noticeable bot issues is them firing into walls / floors a lot. This happens on all settings, including maxed out godlike. I don't think I've ever seen them do it with UT's default guns, or other custom guns; seems to be a unique BW problem.

Well the bots don't compensate for the recoil so i'm thinking they're shooting at us but cuase of the weapons recoil/ chaos the bullets/ porjectiles go everywhich way.

Yes, BW has recoil and inaccuracy unlike the default weapons. So it is a pretty obvious thing that the AI needs to be coded so the bots know the rules of recoil and other advanced weapon settings.

Yeah, I know they don't understand recoil and such, but this is different. In TDM I've often seen my maxed out godlike support bot emptying its gun into a wall or other object when there's no enemy in sight!. It's trying to shoot right through all the map's geometry at some distant, invisible target. At least, that's what it looks like, and it happens a lot.

It is probably trying to shoot at another bot that is behind the wall or even farther away. Maybe RS can fix that in the next version.

shooting at plain walls?? thats not good.. we'll have to make sure these bot recognise recoil and innacuracy stuff.. i fint them fairly playable, but sometimes they arent that great with aiming

I've never seen them shooting at nothing! they miss, yes, but theres always something for them to try shooting... They don't actually know that they can shoot through stuff, so they don't try...

after playing many matches with the ballistic weapons i've found that the only real weapon they can use without messed up shooting is the G5 RPG, don't know why but it just is.

Yes, you have a point, they are surprisingly accurate with the G5 especially if you stand still.

That is common sense. But they still occasionally manage to hit me even if I'm jumping around like a clown.

I was playing another BW match and my teammate shot at this blue guy on a ledge that was higher than me, i of course, was jumping around and the G5 smack my face so hard Thank god FF was off. Wait does UT2k4 even have a FF option?

So in the end the bots are both dumb and smart and have no luck when dealing with a jumping Gen Moi Kai on their team

Friendly fire? There is an option for that, you can even control the percentage by using the main INI file.

Uh, for increased realism and for people who like an extra challenge? Personally I always have it on, and set to full. Yeah, sure me & the bots kill each other a lot, but that's all part of the game, and can actually be pretty funny. I usually forgive Angel when she furiously machineguns me to bits, or suicidally jumps in front of my outbound G5, but when Osama pulls a stunt like that I sometimes get pissed off and cap him in the ass.
