Anyone who installs the UMOD gets a Mismatch. Period.

Maybe you should add more detail, how did you get that conclusion? Do the UMods include files of many versions?

Which form did you use? Zip?

I have had 4 Peope install the UMOD and are now getting version mismatches, They have used the BW 1.72 that they got off my server but wanted the full functionality of BW so they have installed the UMOD, after doing so they now get version mismatches, I told them to clear theri cache folder out (which contains all the files pulled from the server) I still dont get this, If its the same files then why VERSION mismatches unless the Bcore from JW is totally diffrent then the one in BW 1.72.

Maybe RS should seperate JW entirely from BW, even I am confused on how the install order is because of those mods sharing files in the inital ZIP/UMod.

If i ever download a Umod i always just use Umod Browser to get all the files since half the time someone f**ks up with the Umod and the files aren't setup right, or the Umod thingy doesn't work at all, plus with Umods unlike zip files, you can't overwrite prevoious files (unless you uninstall but who wants to do that).

crap.. next release should take care of wierd stuff like this, and we're trying out different package naming..

I do like the UMod's way of adding the mods to setup.exe, so you can manage a list of mods and mutators. I know one can create those entries manually by editing files like Manifest.ini, but it's still a comfy way of managing mods.

Type 'this app can break' into an empty Notepad file and save it. Now open it and you'll witness what I meant by UTF-16 bug.

i hate that manifest.ini file, when i first got UT2k4 most of my problems (game crashes etc) were becuase of it.

Thanks to Manifest.ini, you can unInstall the game without having to delete the registry keys manually.
So be nice.

yeah well i've found that some dumb umods have a Manifest.ini file and it totally replaces everything in the old one.

Normally that isn't supposed to happen, I guess my advice would be staying away from UMods when it is just a small mutator. It is the bigger mods where the UMods are more professional.

I hate this bug....I know it's going to get seriously looked at and zapped when SB and DC come visit me later this year (hopefully, they're kinda busy with updates until then), then they can play on line and test etc. , as I now have my dsl at home

BUT, the Bcore is the SAME file in both JW and BW. the only reason it is in both, is so that you can run JW on it's own (i.e. without BW installed), as it shares some code.

I think they need to revisit the whole UMOD thing, but it probably won't be soon, as they have other higher priorities at the moment. Maybe the next release shouldn't be UMOD as well as ZIP, but just ZIP ??

I think it's a bad idea to get rid of the UMods, they are convenient for people that are unsure about manual installation.

I think DC should seperate JW totally from BW, create a JCore for example.

AAAaaarrrghhh!!! (Resisting temptation to run away screaming) Ok, first, UMODs seem to have some serious beef for some people. Thats why we have ZIP and UMOD. UMODS are easy to install (when they work) and we have had no experience of our umods damaging any UT install. I don't know what a poorly built umod might do to someone's UT. If you are unlucky, the zip is here. It is more reliable, but doesn;t add those server packages or do the other mod registering stuff. (which ain't too serious IMO)

BCore vs JCore, no I don't think thats nessecarry, they would be identical! There will always be JW version available that works with the latest BW. If you ever have a problem with JW-BW compatability install the latest BALLISTIC WEAPONS version.
We may actually try rethinking things a bit and/or changing our install methods to prevent BCore being replaced with older versions when installing an old JW or BW.
These friggin mismatches sound like hell! If the server has the latest release, the clients should have it too and all would (theoretically) work! perhaps its the old stuff in the cache or maybe people don't have the latest ver. Maybe some thing installed an older one or they did to join older servers. Perhaps you have a better idea of what it is.
At any rate, we're gonna try hammer this one as soon as we can. We want it fixed (or at least improved) for the next release. Right now we're thinking that giving each version unique package names will help, but we'll have to investigate it thoroughly...

That is exactly the problem, the server may have updated files, but because the clients have the same files as the server, it won't attempt to upload the updated version to the clients because it thinks the clients are up to date.
Adding version numbers would get rid of this issue altogether.

A simple change like BCore_172.u, or BCore_20 for the next release, would do the trick nicely.

And if JCore and BCore would be the exact same, then let's drop that idea.

Actually I have had a few people screw their systems with the zips to...It has something to do with when they ACTUALLY PLAY offline, Its a nasty bug.

Hammer it down and Ill test it for you (ON the Server side).

My server is running ALL Updated Files.

I agree. This would Make anyone who joins the server USE the new files to play and If they have not installed the UMOD/Zip..they would run the older version in first person, hence..no more mismatches.

Well If you like playing Online and First person it screws your UT up. Not your system.

We will investigate unique file names for sure and soon! We don't actually need a net connection at all to test out some of these bugs...
The only thing that worries me is unreal finding the same class name in two different packages, but we'll see...
