Hay all. I just recently installed V70 Bsllistics and when I come to play it, I get terrible lag issues. It's come to the point were UT2004 is un-playable because of the lag using the Ballistics mutator. My computer specifications are as follows Asus Geforce 6800 128mb AMD 64 3000+ 512MB RAM I can play normal UT2004 perfectly fine on maxium settings with no lag. I have tried lowering the weapons detail in ballistics to very low, but no avail, I still lag. Any help, suggestions and tweaks are welcome! |

Ok, your machine should be more than capable with those specs... Is there anything in the UT2004.log file? Also, you might want to grab the latest BW update, v1.72, that may help. Do none of the settings in the BW menu have any effect? Also gotta make sure UT2004 is patched to v3369. Which Ballistic Mutator did you use? Do all three of them do the same thing? Anyway, good luck. Be sure to tell us what happens...

I have 3369. I use the Bloody Hell mutator and the Ballistics Mutator [not the load-out one]. And where is the UT2004.log file? I'll try the 1.72 patch. Thanks .

512 Mb memory is pretty little, but it shouldn't get to a point of being unplayable. How big is your LOG file and the UT2004 folder overall? This can often be caused by a huge UT2004 folder full of compatibility errors and junk files, a fresh reInstall often fixes that.

My folder is 5.56GB. I have to reinstall and get the ZIP. version of Ballistics 170 . And I'm going out today. Bye bye.

If you got v170 on already, you just need to install the v1.72 patch. It's much smaller and needs 170 to be already installed. |

I'd definitely upgrade to at least 1.5 gigs (not too expensive nowadays), it will make a big difference. It did on my PC, anyway. ![]() I'd only do that as a last resort; reinstalling all the patches, bonus packs & custom stuff ain't no picnic! Try upgrading your ram first, raw power is the solution to many problems.

You are glad to hear that he is getting long loading times?
But RedShift, let's not go too crazy, I'd say at least 1 Gb but recommend 1.5 - 2 Gb. Anything above will be useless, no piece of software or a game uses that much, let alone 2.5+. |

But not more than 1.5 Gbs, not even an infinite script recursion can do that, and that says a lot. |

We have run this with PCs with 128 MB RAM. Turning down texture detail fixes RAM problems. I'm also glad it's running faster now. Certainly heaping RAM into your PC will shorten laod times and allow increased texture detail. More RAM is a great idea any time... We need some more ourselves... You'd be surprised at what infinite recursions can do... Oh yes, make sure you get v1.72 patch, then you will be able to get the Lightning gun! If you ain't tried that, you'll want to!!!

UE3 uses several million poly characters to generate the normal maps.. same with the Doom3 and Q4 engines.. thats how normal maps are generated.. |

I see, but that could be a problem because the most memory supported by today's motherboards is 4 Gbs. I have heard of some supporting 8 but those aren't common it seems. |
