I have been wondering how it works too, isn't there a few words about it in the BW manual?

Hmm. . .I really should just poke it until it surrenders it's secrets. Seems we don't much know what it does! 'Cept for DC, of course.

I know how it works. You can't delete items already in the level previously, but you can throw them away by putting them high in the sky, only reachable by Shin-Ryuu or a cheater.

You can add stuff in, and move those around, being BW stuff or even just non-BW items if you add those items to the database of known things that are addable. There are a lot more, and I'll just make a tutorial on using the Itemizer in a little bit.

I want to make a mutator which replaces 25% of all health vails and Adreline with ArmorShards :D

But I dunno how to create mutators... the only thing I can do is copy something existing and changing it. I've always scripted stuff that way

There is an armor shard mutator for UT2004, but I bet you'd want to see your own creation instead of the other that comes with the mutator.

Hmm. . .Interesting. Armor is definetly in need of being a tiny bit more prevalent.

Offtopic: I love the BW sheild effect! Most impressive!

Anyways back to topic... how does the Itemizer work? :D

Itemizer 101

1. What is the Itemizer?
This is a tool designed for level designers to place different things to the level before they actually place them permanently, such as health packs and ammo for weapons. Very useful to people needing to playtest the placements since it can save the placements so you can then go to play a match normally. This can be very useful for the idea of balancing gameplay.

2. How do I use this thing!?
You first enable the mut Itemizer Tool, so you can have this thing in the level. Then, when in level, you press the number associated with what you want, such as Weapons or Ammo. Then you can go select the gun you want to spawn. It will spawn where you aimed at right now, but if you go to the last number (9 or 0), you can make this spawn where you stand instead, among other things, like if the guns are right-side up, or laying on their sides.

The same goes for all items you want to play. Stock, the tool only has BW items, and not UT items, but this can be changed.

3. How can I add in UT weapons!?
There's an ini file you have to modify, but I'm not too good with that one so... PM DC about that or something. Actually, I can find that out in a little bit, hopefully.

Ok, I am here...

The itemizer is a system we added which places new pickups in the levels not already placd in UnrealEd.

It was designed to be used by BW and other mutators to put their own stuff in. It comes with a 'groups' system, which allows differents sets of items in the same level. BW uses the 'Ballistic' group by default, but this can be changed in its options...
The general itemizer tool also allow you to pick the group...

Itemizer info is stored in a big file with a list of items for each group for each level!

Along with the system, is the Itemizer tool which is amutator you can use to place new items and mess with them. The tool has a menu on the side of the screen you use to do everything. Its pretty simple... Just use the keys 1-0 to operate the menu. When you intend doing something to a certain item, you ai at it with your cross hair. Thats how the thing knows what you are talking about. When you want to put a gun somewhere, you point at the spot and so on...

We were thinking of starting up a thing where people make Itemizer sets for BW for all the maps they can find and then we collect the sets, merge them and use them as another way of having BW items in maps...

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but how would one use the ItemizerTool in a non-UT2004 gametype? To be specific, I am trying to place ammo bags in KF maps, (I got that to work in normal UT2004 maps) but the tool doesn't show up in game.

Is it me or does this thing sound a bit like Halo3's Forge?

Well if you can get the 'Itemizer' mutator to show up in the mutators list, it should work. If you can't get the tool to show up in KF (if you can get the Itemizer, you should get the tool) you can use the tool in the same map in normal UT, then copy and paste the items from the itemizers DB in UT to the DB in KF. Not sure how all thsi wil actually work. The only way is to just mess around with it and see. ;)

Okay, well I got it working (just had to set game to deathmatch instead of the modded gametype). Just one question though, to add third party weapons would I just add a new classgroup line to the itemizerv21.ini ? I have tried that and whenever I attempted adding a certain 3rd party item ( a different kevlar vest shield pickup) I wasn't able to delete it (except by deleting the actual line from Itemizer.ini) and any movement /orientation changes I made would dissappear upon reloading the map. This also happened to a light armor pick up but that only happened once.
