Post subject:  Loadout problems in LAN play

Right now I have two computers, mine and a friend's I'm borrowing. Both have a clean install of 2004 on them with nothing but the latest bonus pack (which comes with the latest patch) and BW2.0. Both play 2.0 just fine in instant action.

When I host with my computer, loadout works fine for me but on my friend's computer most of the weapons I choose won't show up. Sometimes I'll get two of them, sometimes one. It usually seems to be either a secondary or a melee weapon, but this varies. Sometimes everything will work fine, but this is rare. As far as I can tell, when my friend's computer hosts, loadout works fine for both of us.

Has anyone else had this problem? Since there's a simple workaround I wouldn't be to bothered with it, but my friend is having a LAN party in a few weeks, and we're planning to make BW one of the main games to play. I don't want to have everyone install 2004 and BW only to find it's half broken when we all go to play it.

Hmm... Make sure whoever's computer is hosting has the proper ServerPackages enabled.

Other than that, I don't know...

What are these ServerPackages and where do I get them?

Also, why would one computer have them and one not? It doesn't really make sense. Thanks for the advice though.

I had this for a while, it always gave me the last weapon I edited in the Loadout menu, and then it randomly worked normally again for a while. I didn't think to make sure his server packages were updated though, and I couldn't host because he was using my copy of UT2004.

Server Packages are a line you add into one of the files for UTo4, I tihnk you put it in the Config file... can't remember... but anyways, the file itself should be called UT2004.ini, and you should find a group of server packages in it, when you find that, put the following line at the end of that list:

ServerPakages=Ballisticv2
ServerPackages=BCorev2

Ok, bit of an update here.

Firstly, it seems I was wrong about the second computer. Both of them have loadout problems when they're not the one hosting, though when my friend's comp is hosting it seems a little more reliable. Could just be luck though..

I added those two lines to UT2004.ini like you suggested Xavious, but they didn't help either. I also tried running each computer as a dedicated server, but that wasn't helpful either.

Oh, I've also tried running both BW as a gametype with loadout enabled, and as the BW loadout mutator under stock 2004. That also didn't help...

I haven't played online, but I'm assuming that this doesn't happen on hedsteem?

I just noticed a error in what I said previously, try putting BCore in the ServerPackages list before Ballistic (It seems minor, but it does make a difference). If that still don't work, then we'll see what Wup has to say.

I tried changing the lines around, but it still didn't work. Thanks for your help anyway Xavious.

I don't suppose any of the devs know about this? I was under the impression that you tested BW over lan...

Doesn't the .UMOD for BW v2 automatically add the "ServerPackages=" lines? I am quite sure I didn't add these 5 lines I found in my UT2004.ini:

ServerPackages=BallisticV2
ServerPackages=BCoreV2
ServerPackages=BWBPOneV2
ServerPackages=BWBPTwoV2
ServerPackages=BWBPThreeV2

Try adding all those. If you used the .ZIP, try uninstalling everything (do a search for files in UT that start with "ballistic" or "bw") and install it using the .UMOD. I swear by umods and just use a umod extractor if I need to make it a zip

UPDATE: Fixed it!

I did a clean install on both of the computers. After installing 2004 I installed the mega bonus pack and then the patch. I thought the mega bonus pack included the patch but the BW umod didn't seem to think so. Anyway, after installing the patch seperately everything worked fine.

I should mention that last time both computers had the bonus pack but no seperate install of the patch, and the .zip version of the mod. There were also problems with weapons dissapearing in all play modes, but since I usually only play loadout I didn't notice them. The reason I didn't use the .umod version before is because I've had intermitant problems with umods not running. This didn't occur this time though.

Anyway, the reason I'm mentioning all this is in case anyone else wants to play BW on a LAN. It seems you pretty much have to use the .umod version, and installing the bonus pack and the patch probably wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks a lot to Tyster for suggesting it in the first place!
