I'm not sure how many have tried this or wanted to try it but the other day me and deathblade were playing around and were able to successfully get the RPG mutator working with ballistic 2.0. We had the magical weapons chance set to 0 because we believed that was what was casuing the issue when we tried RPG w/ the previous ballistic version. Just figured id post this here to inform you all.

Dont worry about loosing magic weapons, they offer no real bonus anyway in regards to victory. Except for infinite weapons but those things become a dangerous, dangerous obsession that severely takes the fun out of DM-INV-HoldThe Camp

Only towards a table dressing feature I can go without.

I dont like RPG you see, it was awesome when I first tried it. Fit so well into invasion at first, then you start reaching level 50 and the game of survival and teamwork becomes a race to kill the most critters.

Everyones responce to this is to make the monsters tougher but the more you leveled, the more challenge you needed.

Before long monsters could take 150 rockets to die, they move superfast and gib you in one shot. Not a problem if you have 500 damage reduction and could spam flak like vomit. But it scared new players away:

its not too fun when no matter what you do you just cant avoid that skaarj sniper that can spot you from across the map and peg you between the eyes in 0.01 seconds.

It also encouraged camping. Rounds would last literally hours as players hide behind glitched walls using their infinite assault rifles to spam grenades in every possible direction while a nali with an instagib rifle waits patiently at the other end of the map. Everyone too scared to go after the bastard.

Finally as RPG introduced so many possible additives, servers became addicted to adding even more items to play with. One server I joined required a 2 hour wait to download all the eccessive items and models just to expand RPG.

Invasion is not dead but if it dies, I have a feeling RPG might be the cause of it. Its on almost every server and the effects seem to be the same.

I play invasion with new monsters and weapons but no RPG, no translocator, no quadjump and of course no superstrong monsters that make me want to run and hide. Its a hell of alot more fun being able to dogfight amidst 20 skaarj warriors using only pure skill and your dual fifty-9's without having to resort to a globe of invulnerability or 1000 damage bonus. Thats the way invasion should be played.

But thats my opinion, by all means enjoy RPG and it's excellent gameplay enhancements, it does not have to compromise gameplay nor does it force you to camp but exactly that is becoming a common sight on invasion servers nowadays and im growing weary of it. Perhaps im just getting old.

Actually, that sounds pretty fun.

I just scale up the toughness of the monsters and leave my stats alone, feels a bit more challenging to me.

But the purpose of this thread is not to debate whether you hate the RPG mod or not, as far as I know.

At any rate it somewhat works together.

Not really. Because nothing is stopping me from throwing myself into the thick of battle and I know I wont get instagibbed. It really is an adrenalin rush to be able to fight while completely surrounded with the confidence in knowing I have a chance to survive if I do it skillfully.

I also didnt mention what I do add to invasion:

vehicle invasion 116: run over krall in a leviathan and strew brute guts around with the manta. Its very cool with maps specifically designed for vehicle based invasions. And monsters have their own counters againts vehicles: the mercenary, skaarj sniper and behemoth so it doesnt unbalance anything.

Ballistic weapons: killing monsters with the katana is a riot. I love having samurai matches using only the katana and the super berserk mutator. The minigun, raingun, dual fifty-9's, and toxic granades are excellent tools in invasion.

Weapons of evil: just for an extra set of weapons, together with UT2 guns gives me over 50 weapons in my arsenal to fight off the minions of the skaarj empire.

Satore MP: a standard for every invasion game. I configure my waves to have as many different types of monsters at once for a true battleground feeling. I start with just 2 types of monsters on wave 1 but each waves adds 2 more monsters until waves 8 to 13 where I have 12 different types of monsters to face all at once. Its a real mess. And feels like an actual battle force rather than a dictated roster of enemies.

Wetham Invasion 3: 20 new monsters added using satore monster pack. I take on skaarj that shoots shock orbs, Gasbags that fire flack shells, Brutes that shoot plasma and warlords that fire redeemers and more. Combined with satore monster configurator I created a giant manta, and a supersized brute like the real behemoth from unreal 1

No RPG, quadjump or translocator just means there is no hiding from the slaughter.

Anyway back on topic...

what about weapons of power that would be cool idk if it works with bw caues i never got wop to work but that would be cool

Weapons of power was cool but I dont beleive it would work

WoP functions by adding onto the current list RPG magic weapons instead. It doesnt have a stand-alone method of giving you WoP's

So if you cant have magic weapons with BW you are not going to get a WoP either.

Wup's RPG server is fine but it has the MPC maps on it. Those maps carry the SSR and the OMFG gun and as you can guess they are played often. Whenever I joined I saw red beams killing monsters left and right. They kinda make the ballistic weapons pointless.
