i have a really bad problem with this mod. everytime i use it i get really bad FPS spikes... usually halfway through a match, which can only be fixed by constantly staring upwards or down at thefloor
i love this mod, the weapons are soooo good......but i just can't play it.
any idea whats wrong?

You need one of those super new cards to run Ballistic at all highs with good performance. Try getting the Nvidia GeForce 7800, that should reduce most of the lag.

dude i have a Nvidia FX 5200 series GPU and have not much problem running BW with BW content on highest, the only lag i get is from my 512 ram and CPU!

Also a 7800 is probably able to play UT2007 on low settings so don't start thinking you need a 7800 to play UT2004/BW at the best quality, you mostly need a good processor and ram, and a Geforce 5 or 6 series GPU!

UglyPants, Geforce 7800 will play UT2007 on high settings. Do you think Epic would get any copies sold if you needed to shell out $1000+ to be able to play on low settings? Low settings would be a Geforce 6600 series card.

And for UT2004, don't even bother upgrading the GPU, the processor has far bigger peformance involvement.
Memory plays a big role as well, 1 Gb makes huge difference over 512 Mb.

Aye, so very true! I recommend 1.5 Gb (or higher, obviously) because WinXP is such a freakin resource hog... Ideally you should have (at least) one Gb of RAM just for the game. This should significantly improve load times, and maps should run smoother as well.

But forget about upgrading CPUs... Better get a fresh new rig after UT2007 has been released.

Have you seen the pics & vids at http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/unrealtournament2007/ btw? Looks totally awesome, especially those tripods they ripped from War of the Worlds! UT2k7 is gonna be wicked sick, though they'll probably mess up again with things like gibs (fake looking) and locational damage (hardly any). Also the lighting looks a bit funny in the pics, like they're all permanently basking in the glow of a nuclear explosion or something...

But those are just relatively minor issues... As a whole, the game will probably 0wn h@rd and d33p, esp. with the enhanced BW guns! :cheer:

You won't need more than 1 Gb for UT2004, and WinXP only uses around 140 Mbs for me. But that is after a lot of tweaking I did.

I hear it's going to be for PS3, UT2007. If so, it'd be a lot cheaper just to get that if you can. May be expensive for a console, but think of what you'd pay for a PC that can run it. AND YEAH THOSE TRIPOD THINGS LOOK SWEET...I recall the 2 Necris people in the ECE pack. Did anyone see their ages?

Uh, but you wouldn't be able to play BW -or any other mod for that matter- on a console, right?? :S Consoles suck, only being able to play the official version of a game is boring as hell. The only reason I still play UT is because of the community content, period. Also I don't have to pay extra to get online. :cheer:

Yeah, gaming PCs are expensive, but they're infinitely superior to consoles, imo.

PCs cost more, that is obvious, but you get what you pay for. The extra $1000 will guarantee you many times better visual quality, moddability, plus more freedom of what happens in the computer.

I will never buy a console, simply because they are for people that don't have a clue how PCs work, or can't afford a decent one.

My 2 cents.

Oh that's quite true...but then again if I can't get a good enough computer, I will have to go with getting the one for PS3 anyhow. I'm going to be getting PS3 either way, so...
Consoles may not be as adabtable, but you have to give them their good points. Like online play. There's not as many issues online with them. Also, a computer's gonna come up with a lot more problems overall than a console. But the computer does have a lot of it's own pros. So I call consoles and computers equal. But that's my opinion.

There are no problems for PCs if you know how to use them properly. Windows XP never crashes unless you or another application did something wrong, for example.

No one knows the requriments so don't start betting that a 7800 will run it high end! dual 7900's are the way to go!

BW should run fine with 1gb ram, and a decent P4 CPU.. GPU make the least difference at the moment.. but a 5500, 6,7 and so on will still improve things a bit..:)

Well, let's hope those are the actual in-game gibs, not just some artistically enhanced promo stuff...

Epic said themselves that the game would run fine on Medium settings with a decent Geforce 6800.

Yeah, looks like the game will make good use of SM3.0 and DX9 effects, which are easily supported by even a FX 5950 Ultra.

Why are so many people thinking the game will have astronomical requirements? It puzzles me.

trust me its going to need a good card and PC! Plus most people (myself included) want to play it at maximum settings!

You could probably do that with two 7900 GTXs in SLi or two X1900 XTXs in Crossfire. Or a single Geforce 8xxx card or ATi X2xxx card.

But be careful when using AA, 8xAA/16xAF plus max settings even makes Doom 3 bog down to the 30s FPS for me occasionally.

always[/i] try to downplay those, for obvious reasons). I'm not buying the game until I have the gear to run it maxed out, even if that means having to wait a couple months after release.

Change that into years. My system runs Fear on max settings with average 30 FPS.

I think UT2007 will requirements somewhat higher than that game, so you may even need better than dual 7900 GTX to handle it at full AA/AF with 1600 x 1200 and max details. :S
