since we install BW2.1 on our server - we have strong problems with it:
very laggy - sometimes can´t see explosions - and handling of ini is confusing - the user dosent notice the differences between the old and new version.

were is a documentation about the new 2.1 ballistic ini ?

what is the right way to handle the ut2004.ini ? ServerPackages=xxxxV2 and the ServerPackages=xxxxV21 or only the new one?

- we like BW - so we want to have a good running system

Only v21 packages should be on the .ini, unless you want to use some of the v2.0 version's weapons, if you don't like the tweaks.

ok - we have run the server with only V21 - but the same problems.

we wonder - 2.0 runs well and now....it´s a pity.

I don't know if this can be fixed with a patch, because the other servers don't have this problem, that we know of.

what can be the reason for big lags? we have allready install the 2.0 - just copy over the 2.1 and change the serverPackages to V21.

- there must be a misttake - maybe on our side - because we think, the 2.1 is a step back (for handling, performance and gameplay). i am sorry about that.

You'll need to be more specific. When does the lag happen? What are you doing when it happens? Can you also describe the lag? What happens during the lag?

Also, does it happen to individual players in Instant action, or only when playing your server? Have you tried playing in other Ballistic servers to see the lag happens there as well?

ok i´ll try.

first - we have the lags only in 2.1 and online - instant action it is running well.

it happends: sometimes when you see an opponent, sometimes when it starts a fight, sometimes at explosions, or just at walking arround.
happens during: complete still standing computer at all players at the server or sometimes one player see nothing sametime other player hear nothing. eplosions kill´s but not all player see why. running - lag - next screen red or running - eplosion - running - after 2 sec - dead.
its hard to frag by shooting, because it´s feeling like every player had a 500 ping

we dont try a other online server - but we will this night.

I remember having issues like this myself in 2.0. I think I fixed it by adding the Ballistic packages to my own UT2004.ini. I dunno if that really worked though. I also upgraded my RAM since then.

all users at our clan have enough ram - my pc has 2gb

Any progress on this?

we tested it at LAN - this works well.

our group decide to use the 2.0 at online playing.
we can not handle the lags with the 2.1 and anyway we dislike the new mine´s and the jump controlle.

Server Specs and ISP Specs i dont know exactly - it is a rented system in germanys top server location. minimum a dualcore 2x3,0 Pentium with min. 2048GB Ram.

Ok Lets tweak this

20000 Max Client rate is too high change it to 10000 (Change Both)

Tickrate to 30 (Change Both)

Try those and get back to me.

Your server looks like it is sending wayy too much information Epic recommends anywhere from 5500 - 10000 for the Netspeed. Tickrate Will bring a server to its knees especially if you share the server with other ut servers (which im sure you do) unless your renting a dedicated box.

this settings wasnt very good - extrreme lags.
shooting, sound and way distance are not synchronous.

Ok go lower..Try Client Speed 6500 Tick 25

i am sorry, but we try 10000 and tickrate 50 and it works much better than the lower tickrate. i dont know why.
with the 10000/50 it runs with very little lag at the beginning vom the match - its ok.
our next step is to clean the server and make a complete fresh new installation - then is give you reply.

What Gametype are you running?

Try to ping the server to see if you're losing packets. If its not yours and the server basically equates to a mid-range system... except IN GERMANY! It is probably just that you're lagging due to it being so far away perhaps?

That'll help you test the server in germany btw. I know that from my location I lose an average of 10% to Germany, even though all other countries are generally 100%.

If you can spare it, get a friend to load it on a box and run it via LAN. If it runs fine, then it would be your internet connection. If you want me to run some tests on the server you can PM me the IP. I have a ton of tools to help you out (I work as a computer technican).

"Okay" only means you're not losing any packets or anything.

Those are some impressive numbers for Europe, by the way.

do you mean impressively good or bad? when this is the ping - this are good value in germany and europe is ok too.

KBR-Kasi: You dint do that quite right. You're pinging the server, so of course its connection to germany would be great. Unfortunately you're trying to connect to Germany. So retry with your own IP. If you dont know it, ask any admin here, these PHP forums log user IPs.

So, if you ping yourself FROM Germany then you know the connection between you and Germany kinda sucks. (Again, you were pinging Germany-Germany there, hence the impressive Europe pings)

Huh, you're right... I'd rule a bum server but if it plays 2.0 fine I dont know. Bad sector on the HD, or crap ram? (although that would usually just crap the game) No way of knowing unfortunately.

I hope its just a wrong setting.

Ever figure this out? My new server has some lag issues I didn't experience before. I was hoping to find a fix.

I still get it at the beginning of each round when the BW weapons fill the Weapon lockers..I'm running 2.0 with the 2.1 weapons.
