| Post subject: | Question about weapon twitch and muzzle flash |
Ballistic Weapons is full of options letting us play it how we like, which is awesome, because while I like realistic-style weapons, I don't care much for all the other stuff like stamina, accuracy etc. so I've got the weapons set to fire in a straight line so that they hit dead center every time. The only weapons with any real conefire are the shotguns, the S-AR (which I like because of that) and the XMV minigun. Now my computer's not the greatest so I run in 800x600 mode. As such, when using the M353 machine gun, the muzzle flash actually gets in the way of the crosshair essentially blocking my view of the target. Is there a way to disable muzzle flashes and I just haven't seen it anywhere? Also, while we are on the subject of customizing your BW experience, is it possible to change a setting somewhere that makes it so that your weapon doesn't move when you get shot? If there isn't anything I can add to an INI file or an option on the screen, can something like that be added if perhaps there is another UT2K4 release? I'd certainly appreciate it
Thank you. |

hmm... i don't think muzzle flashes can be completely disabled. muzzle smoke can be though. world detail, only takes off some of the effects, but the main flash is still there.. so turning accuracy to full, still makes the guns move when shot? BTW, welcome to RS forums

The only way to do it would be to create a copy of that weapon with the muzzle flashes removed and use that instead of the stock weapon. |

If there is another UT2K4 release, can they be added as options? Or does the weapon have to be copied with the muzzle flash removed? Cause that seems like it'd be a lot of work, and I wouldn't ask anyone to do that. Even if it's JUST the M353 (and maybe the M925). Their flashes are the ones getting in the way of my crosshair, everything else seems okay. |

No, because the muzzle flash would still block my target, it's so big. Getting out of the Stone Age technology might help but that takes money I don't have.
And actually I'm thinking there may be a way to disable the muzzle flashes, since I'm not sure how I did it, I was switching weapons pretty fast, but I managed to get the muzzle flash on the M353 to disappear (and it was just the M353...) I would fire it and I noticed the flash was gone. I wish I knew how I did it, so I could do it again
I also wish I'd thought to take a picture of it.. |

You probably play at a res larger than 800x600, so the flash doesn't stretch all the way out to the crosshair.
I was playing Invasion and got it to work again, no muzzle flash on the M353 (and only on that one, it seems.) Not knowing how to make a demo, I did the next best thing I could, I took a video of it with my digital camera. It's 44.5 megs in size but clearly shows off what I need to show off. If anyone wants to see it I can upload it to Rapidshare or something. So there must be SOMETHING it's doing to shut it off, which is what is making me think it should in theory be possible to do this, with say, an adjustment to an INI file or something that the Ballistic options looks in. |

Flash from guns is a real world problem that gets countered by muzzle applied flash hiders and silencers. I have seen flash hiders that extend about six inches past the original stock ones for the AR-15(M-16 Civilian mod) They are used not only to stop the flash from blinding you in low light situations, but also to stop the enemy getting any easy fix on your location. However the devs could just make muzzle flash options in the mod menu or make some guns have an in game applied flash hider like the silencer for the one sub machine gun. However since this is just a sort of one person problem so far it may not be worth the animation work etc.... |

Yeah, just an option to remove the flashes would be great, no sense going to the trouble of adding flash hider models and animations of attaching them, not to mention you wouldn't be able to do it to every gun making it pretty pointless, etc. Just an option would be nice, and all I'm asking. Nothing complicated and too much work like that
Of course, if I had a better computer and could play at a better res, this wouldn't be a problem in the first place and then it would be a no-person problem, but I just don't have the money for an upgrade right now...
Also because "no muzzle flash" has been noticed by and commented on by a moderator/developer, I don't want my other tiny request to get lost in the shuffle: A "No weapon chaos when you're shot" option.
