Post subject:  The "Quality Third-party Characters Suitable for Ballistic Weapons" Thread

Hello there! I'm new, and I come to you with intriguing ideas that delight and entertain. But first, I'd like to make this thread.

I really rather enjoy Ballistic Weapons (2.1), but like a lot of you I have discerning tastes. Things have to be just right. And such is true in the realm of characters.
Now, the vanilla ones are alright. But we all know that there are better, shinier, custom voice-packed models that beat the defaults into a red paste, and we all want them. BUT! Whilst they may be good in vanilla UT2004, they still have to stand up to the rigorous standards of Ballistic Weapons (2.1).

What I will be trying to do here is give you some examples of what I think are shiny, well-fitting and all-round awesome characters to use in Ballistic Weapons (2... yeah, I'll stop this now). And, hopefully, you will be able to contribute as well, with other models that are in the realms of Rather Nice (or even That's Really Neat). And we may get to know one another better. (That may be a lie)

So! On to the characters. I'll give a small spiel on why they are good for BW, and a link.

1. God-Horus (Link)

This one is my personal fave at the moment. An Stargate-does-Egyptian-Gods themed model, with a tall bird-God dude in shiny armour. A few skin options (including an extra-shiny version), and good feel overall.
The important bit, of course, is how well it fits with BW. Well, the answer is "quite well!" The model looks good holding all the weapons, gorey bits don't look out of the place. The backpack (for flamer, railgun, etc.) is in the right position, if slightly pierced by the spikey bits on his armour. But overall, it fits well into the mod. A good'un.

2. Mr Sockmonkey (Link)

Now this one isn't of the same standard as Mr God Horus, but it's still quite good. Besides, how can you look into his beady eyes and refuse? It'd be like kicking a puppy.
It's a solid model. Team textures, decent model and skin (although the lack of fingers is slightly... disturbing). But how well does it fit in BW? Okay. Looks remarkably kick-ass holding weapons, and the back-pack fits like a backpack should (when he's wearing the lightning gun he looks like a knitted Ghostbuster). The only sticking point might be the grue; why would a sockmonkey have bloody stumps of gristle... let alone blood? Still, if you can stand that, then it's fine.

3. Johnny Magnum (Link)

Now this one is quite a bit more professional than the others, but I've never been too keen to use him. Maybe I never watched enough spaghetti westerns as a child. Still, it's darn tootin'! (Eh? See what I did there?)
It's good looking, with 4-way (count'em, 4) team skins, and a custom voice pack filled with angry-sounding cowboy.
And as for BW compatability, there's no problem as far as I can see. Looks fearsome holding a pair of Fifty-nines or a Tac-shottie, and the backpack works. Gore's also fine. A good model.

4. Stormtroopers (Link)

Now, that link hasn't got any pictures, but I can tell you that from the looks of it the models/skins have been nabbed from Jedi Knight 2. This is no bad thing, as the stormtroopers look rather good. No voice pack, but you can get one from Here at L4Y if you register. There's stormtroopers, swamptroopers, shadowtroopers, some clone troopers from Ep.2, and a couple of other (frankly, a bit cack) models.
Now, these are okay in BW. Weapons look fine, the backpack fits alright, and the stumps (although a bit of a contrast from the shiny plastic armour) look alright. These guys, though, seem a bit slight. They're not bad, though.

5. Bender (Link)

Nooooo! Darn you! Darn you all to heck! ...Why my anguish? Well...

I'll assume you've heard or watched Futurama, and know who Bender is. This is a good model. Scratch that. It's GREAT. The model is good, with fine skins; the voice pack comes with many, many decent-quality soundbites of Bender's greatest quotes which often make me laugh like a loon; hell, even the ragdoll is good! (the arms wiggle like you'd suppose they would, and the door in his torso opens to reveal beer bottles)
But, oh tragedy of tragedies, it just doesn't work with BW. Download it and see, The weapons are held oddly; heck, the backpack hovers in mid-air, next to his head! And when he gibs, often it's in some odd manner that leave the arms but with no torso! It just ruins it slightly.
I'd still recommend you download it though, to use in vanilla UT2004. Because for that, it's great. Just not for Ballistic Weapons.

Well! I hope I was enlightening and useful in your struggle for adequate third-party models. I will update this list with good models as I find them; but for now, the task is up to you!
Have a good model that works with BW? Then post it up, with a link. Put up a reason why you like it, and just how awesome it is. And hopefully, we can build up a really good resource that will inspire generations to come! Maybe.

(Admins; is this in the right spot? This is a matter of importance to BW, after all, and I wasn't sure where else it would fit. Tell me if I am mistaken, please)

I prefere using Covert-operator and Panzer Cop.
Pretty much fits BW.
You can find them on skin-city as well.

I know! He is, isn't he? It's just a pity that his character looks awful when you're using BW. In vanilla, though, he's my first choice! (second is GH, in case you hadn't noticed)
Fun point: using Bender with Instagib (with Bloody Hell enabled; ay ay ay, that's gory!), splattering my enemy all over the walls, and hearing some bluntly hilarious quote from Mr. B. Bending Roderiguez. Ahhh.

EDIT: Hey, that's quite a cool-looking one, P! Fits the more realistic weapons, I'll bet.

Also, Panzercop? I've found two; the Jin-roh one looks nice. I'll check it out.

Well, I must thank you for pointing out the Panzer-cop! One of them is a bit rough, and a tad too shiny, but the other one, Jin-roh Panzercop, is quite delicious. Nice model, skin, looks awesome holding a weapon, and the backpack fits okay.

Must say though, this bug sounds a bit odd:

Ooh, the first set look like the bee's knees.

I've come across this:

Tyrant

Looks like a cross between Godzilla and something from Turok. Will be trying!

Yeah the guy that did that also did another similair one called popo.

Post subject:  The "Quality Third-party Characters Suitable for Ballistic Weapons" Thread

Just found that one. And I must say that Tyrant is the mutt's nuts? He looks AWESOME. In fact, I'm worried that if I use him, the weapons will seem quite mundane (compared to a giant robot T-Rex with energy shields).

EDIT: Popo is also rather something. And by "rather something", I of course mean "Oh my giddy aunt, GIANT SPACE DINOSAURS". I may have drooled slightly.
These are certainly suitable for BW. The backpack is almost totally hidden by the enormous jetpacks these reptilian dudes wear, and the gore looks fine. Plus, they're giant space dinosaurs. GIANT SPACE DINOSAURS.

(You can find Popo by clicking the author's name on that page for Tyrant, if you're curious.)

That monsta aint a model looks like a copy of one of these two if you ask me!

http://unrealtournament2004.filefront.c ... lena;27612

Detail is amazing! scary the way it looks at me...

http://unrealtournament2004.filefront.c ... 2004;27611

Detail is amazing! That alien creature on top freaks me out...

Both have their own amimations and watching them swim is cool. Just try them on Dm beach and u will see what i mean. Some times i make 4 of each of these and make them fight my and the soldiers. The battle looks cool!

I must backtrack! A back-tracking I go!

I now prefer and will link to the "other" Panzercop model.

Panzer Cop

I must admit that I am such a fool that the "tiny head" issue of the other panzer-cop model got to me (It's just a bit weird when your corpses' head suddenly shrinks to the size of a grape!), but after comparing the two models ingame, I must say that this one is actually rather good.

It is a bit shinier, yes. But with "Dark players" turned on, it looks fine. Plus, there's something about the mask/helmet that looks more like the panzercop pictures I've seen, a more distinct maskey bit.

Still, your choice. They're both good, if you're not as mad as me and can stand shrinkey-head corpses.

I like that Effigy skin. However, it has one big flaw (or BW incompatability, if you prefer); when you get blown up, there is this Large green disk encircling the model.

Thanks for the this thread, Fat Zombie. I didn't get any of the characters you posted, but I had a look through the website and found this:

It's a cyber bunnygirl and it's totally awesome! I'm not even sure why... I suppose because bunnygirls are cool and cyberpunk is cool and this model has combined the two into a model that looks nifty and slightly adorable. Anyway, it's my new character ingame :)

Ditto Jin-Roh/Panzer Cop, Quake 4 Marines.

Add to that the marines and spartan models from the HaloUT pack. In particular, the red and blue spartans in team based play match up really well with the red and blue arms on the Ballistic weapons. The halo vehicles in the pack are also among the few 'near future' vehicle sets that mesh well with Ballistic style.
