Hi, I'm Bomber and new to the forums.
Does anybody know, if there is a german translation of BW? We enjoy playing UT2004 an BW on our little lan parties, but our UT versions are fully localized and the mix of English and German is a little bit distracting.

If there is no german translation, is anyone interested in getting one? I've already started to translate the weapon names, but all the other strings - particularly the death strings ;) - are not yet translated. If someone is interested, I could make a translation package...

P.S.: Please note, that my last english lesson was long ago...

This is a good idea, and maybe in addition some of us could translate BW to other common languages like Spanish, Italian, and so on.

I agree, this would be good...

It would however require some volunteers who can translate for us....

I'll chat to the devs....

Ok, if anyone wants to create BW localization files: I have extracted the text strings from the classes (*.u) via ucc dumpint and uploaded the int-files to my homepage. There are two files, one for v2.0 and one for v2.1! Feel free to use them !lol

Jeah, that would be fantastic! !amazed

[edit]
: ... and perhaps they could also include my german translation for BW 2.1 in the installer for BW 2.1! It's done and I hope, some of the german-speaking Ballistic fans enjoy it! Good night... !dodge[/edit]

Hi,
every single string that could be extracted from the class files was translated: Weapon names and history, ammo, items, menu strings, hints and a big load of death strings. In the zip files on my homepage there is a little readme file which contains info about what files have been translated.

%-6 Can we have a chinese, arabian, kroation, greeke, swedish and laitine verions too??!!

For God's sake why should we have some translation in a mod? What is it with you germans and non-german products??

What the hell is your problem? Some people don't understand English all that well. Do you think they don't deserve to play the mod?

Well, it's official. Kien's an ass. I think translations for other languages would be great. BTW, anyone know of good German songs? I seem to have a liking for 80's rock from Germany also (Hier Kommt Alex is a great song!). I may not understand the lyrics, but those riffs are delicious! *is trying to learn HKA on guitar actually*

Kien, translations are not that difficult if you know the language, or have a program that can do so auotomatically. There is no reason NOT to translate, this will further the popularity of the mod

ok.. i think we can try placing the files here (as long as they're only text), and mirror it to all who would want it :) sound good?

Go ahead and do it if you want it. Bomber didn't ask for someone to make a translation, he made it himself for others to use. That's whats called helping the community, Kien.

Have a bit of tolerance for others, won't you.

Thats cool that you did that, Bomber! Your work is much appreciated. :)

Maybe more of us non-English people could make translations to our native language. I'd do Icelandic more for fun than for the community though. :P

Then again, it'd make no sense to translate BW without doing it for UT2 itself first. . .

I just can see how someone can ask for a such thing? If it's some big famous program like photoshop then it's understandable, but just for some game, no. Btw who doesn't hate to have photoshop and such programs in any other language than english? Here in sweden all students whine as soon as they find out that the school are using the swedish version. : P

To put this matter to an end now:

Why wouldn't someone want to play a game in their native language???????
Would you not want BW translated to english (or Swedish) if it was only released in Afrikaans, or French etc. ??

There are a LOT of people playing BW, of various cultures and languages (I know for a fact that we have German, French, Afrikaans and Russian people playing). If we can accomodate some of them why not?? And if some-one wants to contribute to improving this mod, then we are not going to say no !

People are different, and we have different people playing BW (and any game for that matter), so we should respect them and their culture, not moan because they prefer to play in their own language!

This thread is about the fact that some one has kindly contributed to BW by making a translation of it available, not to discuss wether that is good or not. If you wish to debate that issue, feel free to create a thread in General->Chit Chat about it, but be warned, most people don't tolerate others who dis-respect their culture and can't think past their own nose....

Tell me Kien. Who is forcing you to use an alternate language?

If you're happy with english, thats fine. No one is telling you to use otherwise. But just because you don't want it in another language doesn't mean others don't. Your opinion is not shared by everyone.

Please, accept that fact.

I doubt it is shared by anyone.
