I'm a guy of 24 years old from Belgium (Europe) => Sorry for my english, I speak french, and I'm new to the forum but I've been playing BW since it does exist.

I thought BW would end with 2.1 and begin with UT3 (which my pc can't handle though the only cool thing I saw in it was the Necris vehicles "war of the worlds" like) but oooh joy, the great Runestorm team goes on !
Allow me to say that you guys make a great job

I was amazed with BW 2.0 but in BW 2.1 I found that the recoil was really difficult to handle and the restrict for the jump was really hard.

I was good with the M50 (BW 2.0) and now the recoil is so strong that I don't understand how to make a kill with it now I rather rely on shotguns and the jump restrict give me a hard time on some maps
I loved to have to crouch to have a stable aim and having the possibility to "snipe" with the M50

So, here's my main idea (I don't know if it's possible or not and how much work it would ask) but I was thinking of implementing an option in game to have a gameplay like 2.0 and 2.1, example : a check box "2.0 style" that would mainly use the recoil and jump style of 2.0 so poeple would be pleased on the servers to configure a BW game as they like.

Well, what do you think about it ? Would this be possible without years and years of work ?
Personnaly, I think this would be cool to switch the gameplay according to how you'd like to play, sometimes I like 2.1 and sometimes I prefer 2.0 depending mainly of the map I play, what about you all ?

i kind of see what you mean, in 2.0 some things seemed easier(like getting kills with the M50). I dont know if this will be implemented though......

Yes, it was a lot easier to kill poeple with the M50
It was even possible to "snipe" poeple when your cross chair was stable (and that technique isn't that easy to master), you just had to fire some bullet in the head and you got a kill at a big distance and while at close range the grenade of the M50 was a really good choice to blow up your openent. I never really used the camera or maybe in CTF to spy ennemy coming for the flag (really fun idea).

Now the recoil of the weapon is so strong that it takes hour to get a stable aim and kill someone even at close range Well, I was used playing like that in Loadout game and now I don't understand how it is possible to kill someone with that weapon I got fragged 5 to 10 times before succeeding in killing someone

I mean, it's okay to have a so strong recoil for a weapon if it's someone who is not used to handle such a weapon but a military with it's strenght and experience must be able to fire without having to move the weapon in every direction while firing, don't you think ? I guess the character you're handling in the game isn't a noob in holding weapons since he's used to it fighting all that time

Well, I would be really happy to see that kind of stuff coming in an update/patch, I guess I'm not the only one (I saw poeple voting BW 2.1 (in the poll) they weren't so favorable to 2.1 style of play).

Anyway if I'm dreaming and it's not happening, it was a beautiful dream though
I wished I could have posted this in the "Request" forum... Oooh my !

In the 2.0's aiming system, the recoil for your gun continuously decreased, even while firing in full-auto. In v2.1, they added a RecoilDeclineDelay variable that requires you to stop firing for a set amount of time (a tenth of a second for all or most of the weapons) before you start to recover from recoil. I believe this was done to prevent people from firing at almost full-auto firing rates with virtually no recoil using extremely rapid bursts, which really made a lot of the guns overpowered (the Fifty-9 is a big example).

The M50's other recoil values were actually significantly reduced to counter this. You will probably get good results by firing in short bursts, which I think is much more realistic. And really, no matter how long you've handled weapons, there's no way to hold a gun completely steady, unless you've got robotic arms or something. Quite common in this game, but that's beside the point .

Oh, and try the SRS900 Battle Rifle. It was a great weapon in v2.0, but a lot of people whined about the "excessive" recoil (seriously, it had better recoil than the M50!) and now it's freakin' insane. It's a bloody scalpel when scoped.

Thank you for your answer Kaboodles, I never seen it that, I must say, I never really tried the SRS900 really.
I remember having a hard time with it in 2.0 so I never really used it (gonna test this right now ).

When I use the M50, I never use the full auto, it's too hazardous because of the recoil.
Never really got a serious kill with it. I awlays used burst mode because it was really deadly !
Now, even with the burst mode it became really hard to kill someone
I was using the crouch everytime 'cause it seemed logic to me that you could have a more stable aim while beeing crouched.

Now that I think of it, having a position where you totaly lie down would be fun and you would posess an even more stable aim with guns, it would be useful to hide yourself while lying.
Or maybe is it already possible ? I don't remember, I've been playing Troopers : Dawn of Destiny V.6.0 lately so maybe I'm confused with it (Btw sad the X-wing is so hard to manoeuver in it, even if maybe more realistic, it's not as fun as in V.5.0 Having "easy to drive" vehicles was the feature I loved in UT2004)

Speaking of Robotic arms, as you said there are robots in UT2004 lol, So they should get a better aim then ! No, I'm just joking, if ever it was possible, everybody would play with skins which have the best aim then there would be some poeple who would come with "yes you killed me but you have a noob a skin, ..." .

Though the jump thing should have an option "normal style" - "BW Style", I miss the Four Jump
I don't know if you have tried but when you try to activate the Quad Jump mutator now it doesn't work at all

Your timing might be off with BW, IIRC, jumping is a bit smaller with the BW Pawn. Yes, BW uses its own pawn to use instead of the default UT Pawn. It's to let BW use the BW gib system actually.

OCAdam, I agree with you, my timing isn't really great, I need to improve it.

If I want the jump back to normal, it's not to jump every where to avoid firing, etc...
Anyway, I'm not good at avoiding things while jumping lol exept the basic rocket launcher in UT2004.
It's to reach places quicker on some maps it's really useful and without it the map isn't as fierce playing it.
The fact you move the weapon down while jumping and lose a lot of aiming already limit the will of jumping.
I must say, I like to run away from poeple with my jumping skill lol.

But I didn't knew about the Pawn system of BW, thank you for the info, BW team really made a great work, I'm in a hurry to see the BWP4 .

Well, if not implemented, I'm gonna try getting use to it, I was just proposing an I idea and see if poeple like or not to maybe add it in game. I'm happy though to have all those remarks, thanks to all

Well there is a map called target practice maybe you could use it .it's bound to have a link around the forums somewhere.( The targets are static but i have increased my aiming with it a lot)

I've trained a lot more and now I'm getting better against bots (even with the M50)

I must admit, first time I patched from 2.0 to 2.1 I was annoyed and got killed easily by bots and so I didn't play to BW anymore.

Now that I came here, I retrieved my interest in BW and began to train a lot more against bots before entering servers. I'm not sure of myself yet, but now I'm once more in love with BW.

Bots are more good for heating up. To get good at fighting humans, you need to fight humans.

Of course but Bots are good targets ! They move a lot !

And in BW you must stand still to have a good aim, so yes, it's a good heating
(and it's quite cold here since the heating in my house is broken )

True, but it's still a good training before entering a real battle, sure you can't hope reaching first place but though, it helps

I remembered training a lot on basic UT2004 and when I first came on a server, I almost didn't get killed by other players, they immediately wanted me in their team, lol !

On BW, training with bots is still of use to get used to each weapons.
But sure, it will never be as fun as with real players praise them !

Try on Kaboodles by himself against a team of human at the pro level and he'll kill all with his D49, unless you are using a silenced weapon and underwater (that's how I once killed him)!

Well, it wasn't quite amateur on the serveur but I'm used playing deathmatch since doom 1 (played a lot deathmatch to all 1st shooter games 'til unreal tournament 1 in LAN party mainly).

So I had some experiences before against humans.

In normal UT2004, I was always using either the flak cannon or the rocket launcher and using a lot the double jumps, I wasn't always the best of the best but I wasn't that bad .

In BW, the gameplay is very different so I don't think I would kick ass that much
I don't know what is Hedsteem actually, but one day yes, why not, I would be glad to test how BW looks like online.

I fought some quite good players but I don't think I ever fought a pro.
I played Alien Swarm with a pro and it was very impressive, I never thought someone like that could exist lol, he did everything by himself, I was nearly only watching.

But well, personnaly I don't seek to be the best and absolutely fight the professionals and reach first place, I only seek a good moment and some fun just to relax.
I don't like the pressure of competition even in real sports, for me, it's just killing the fun so I don't see the purpose of doing this

For me, a game is a game, it's used to relax and have fun, when the fun disapear, it's no more a game !
So if I get fragged 100 to 0 and had a lot of fun during the game, I don't mind

I loved jailbreak in first UT, I remember playing only jailbreak instead of all those other mods.

For UT2004, I don't know, I never tested it, but I always said to myself I absolutely have to try out one day as I remember I was a huge fan of it !

Hmm. A 2.0 mode sounds interesting, but a bit unneccesary. Personally, I'd rather the M50 made more controllable in ironsights, and to have a bit less chaos overall. Recoil is fine, I guess, as there is little movement upwards when firing fast. Just way to much chaos!

Agreed. Te M900 seems somewhat underpowered except on direct hits, though. Makes sense, as it has no fragmentation I am assuming, just a simple explosion. Will still turn you into a chunky pile of gore, though

Well, now I have to complain about the sniper rifle if someone can make a kill with it, tell me...
I keep training to kill in one hit but it never seems to work even targetting the head
Maybe I have to target the head a bit better... But compared to SRS900...

You're probably hitting them in the arm or something that does less damage than hitting the torso or head.

The R78 (sniper) does about 110 to 120 damage with a shot to the torso and 180 with a headshot, but only 35 to 50 damage with a limb-shot.

Also note that if you're playing on the Hedsteem server, they changed it so that regular health-packs bring your health up beyond 100, so it might be harder to get a kill over there.

I always target the head with the sniper rifle, well, head or torso depending of how the player in front is moving !

But it's easy to get life beyond 100 + armor, the health vials helps a lot !
