Hmmmmm..... modding isn't exactly a huge business. I mean, cmon, how many sponsored packs have been made? Im curious if they do other stuff too. Or if this is just a hobby. I mean, they could probably make a full game with the Archon stuff, and it would be amazing. |

It is practically an entirely new series. And 4 packs have been made. About half of the arsenal in the mod are sponsored, and, judging by about $100 a pop, usually more, per gun, thats around a few thousand. That's worth even more in South Africa if I can recall correctly. |

Ahhhh...well in that case.... I'm a Support Engineer, based at a clients site, doing the role of a systems admin! In english, I am on a team of 3 that looks after the back-end systems (mail,servers,networks etc. etc.) of a large paper mill, with a lot of remote sites to look after as well... |

Hey, that must be nice work to do 
Is it ? I knew poeple who did a job like that in a company, but they never had anything to do actually so their day was resumed to Network play of UT2004
Actually, they even ordered more powerful machines, said it was for their job need but actually it was for UT2004 ! lol, when you don't have anything to do, you have to get yourself occupied ! I guess your job is a bit more active, which would be more cool from my point of view

You should be a comedian. If you want to play at 16 vs 16 on a smaller map, or an Onslaught one, you kinda do need a more powerful one. My computer is seriously lacking in power... I'm forced to actually lower my graphics! Unlike you Bjossi, not all of us have the idea a more powerful computer means you started witha great one and then modded it to be a freakin' civilian's supercomputer. |

Lots of routine maintenance on servers/systems etc. lots of projects...lots of interesting problems to fix... It's nice to have Domain Admin status in a large corporation...it has it's perks, especialy when others only have limited rights...as well as having much more knowledge and experience over the desktop support guys (I have around 12yrs desktop support experience), it's nice to anyoy them when they come asking stupid questions... But, theres lots of responsibility that goes with the job, so it can get stressfull... It does get boring sometimes, we used to have a CS server for friday afternoons provided work was up to date etc., but some idiot complained. It was nice playing CS on a gigabit network backbone  We even used to challenge a sister mill near to us ...
Sadly our boss keeps a hawk eye on us, and after the complaint we can't enjoy such priviledges any more...

As far as I know UT2004 isn't a dual-threaded application, so HT/X2 based processors won't perform any better than standard single-cores. And UT2004 wasn't all that demanding even on release day, remember that it is mostly based on graphics originally created for late 2002. (aka. UT2003) |

I think you're missing the point Bjossi... From how I interpret it, Souls Stream wasn't talking about the requirements of UT2004, but rather laughing at how laid back those guys we're at work that they'd even order new machines for the sake of gaming rather than work. |

Bjossi, I was indeed laughing at how they said to their boss they needed new machines for their work but actually it was just for gaming purpose
I'm laughing because they were lazy guys who prefered to play rather than working ! 
They had terrible machines that were only able to launch quake or so... And when UT2004 got out, they asked for new machines and graphical cards (as I said it was quite a while ago and Nvidia was only developping 5 and 6 series). |

You think thos machines are bad? It takes a good 5 or 10 minutes for my PC to boot up where I work. Bringing up excel for the first time takes a good minute. Oh, and the internet restrictions can be explained in 2 words: concentration camp; it drives the engineers batty. Anyways, good to see you have fair computers at work. Oh, and if I may add my $0.02, Bjossi, I agree that work should be fun, but who says that games can't be a little funner when you get home? |

I agree with you Cyberax
I'm still searching for a job (it's really hard to find something) but I admit I had to refuse 2 or 3 of them because I was saying to myself : I won't be able to this all my life, after a month I will suicide ! I had a work which was really nice (it was working with all european company to enccourage them to do business with Japan) and I really loved all poeple there (well, we were 15 in total) but sadly they didn't really have a job for me (I was just doing a replacement for 6 month). I hope I'll enjoy the job I'll find ! Well, now, 22 February, I have an Interview for a job but it will last only a year... Actually I hope I will get it, hope poeple there will be nice and hope they will keep me after that year

if you really want to play games at work just get into security, my girlfriend does 2 12 hour shifts on the weekend and all she does is play warcraft the entire time...damn her and her portable internet! |
