Post subject:  Ballistic Weapons crashing ut2004 in Onslaught

I have been using Ballistic weapons for the past week. I installed BW ver. 2.00, then BW ver. 2.1 on top of that, and then the bonus pack (4). I go to play a few deathmatch rounds with BW enabled (and full gore) and my game runs fine, no problems.

But when I play onslaught, it loads fine, but 5 minutes into the match, my game freezes and then crashes. It has done so five times already, and after a few test matches, I confirmed that BW is causing my game to crash.

Tried an ONS match with no mutators = works fine
Tried ONS with a few stock mutators = works fine
Tried ONS using WoRM to replace stock vehicles with custom ones (Airpower IV and Advanced Armor) = works fine
Tried ONS with BW and WoRM = crashes
Tried ONS with BW only (no other mutators) = crashes
Tried Ballistic ONS with no other mutators = crashes

And I get a different "critical error" message each time. Here is my most recent one:

One thing to note: My OS is actually vista. I was running it in compatibility mode (but that obviously didn't fix the problem)
I have also gotten messages like "out of virtual memory" (which I think is complete BS) or "general protection fault".
This only happens in ONS. BW works fine in DM. I played like 5 DM matches with Ballistic weapons with no problems, but I can't even get through a single ONS match. I have not tried other game modes. BW is the only thing that seems to crash the game (I used Ballistic loadout and Ballistic Weapons; both cause a crash). And yes, my game is patched to 3369.

UPDATE: Reinstalling the game did not fix the problem. I made sure I had the latest DirectX version. Besides the base game, the ECE bonus pack and patch 3369 are the only other things installed. Nothing I am doing seems to be fixing the problem. I was able to play a few full games on ONS-Crossfire, ONS-Dria, and ONS-Primeval (all maps that come with the game), but after ending a match once on ONS-Crossfire, I clicked "back" to return to the main menu, only to have the game crash and get the same error message as above. I just had it crash on me when playing Assault (AS-Confexia), and got a similar error. If anyone needs more info, like what settings I use, as well as my log, I can provide that.

Um... try disabling decals. Maybe there is some sort of problem with decals on terrain for you. Usually, there is just some uggly artifacts from it, but maybe it crashes your computer? Kind of a stretch, but might be worth trying.

Disabling decals under settings, right? Will that disable the gore effects (the ones you can set under the BW mutators)? Because, the I play Deathmatch with decals enabled and never had it crash. This only happens in onslaught and Assualt (both involving vehicles). If the decals are causing ONS to crash, is that a problem with my computer or the installation?

One thing I forgot to mention is that I have done test matches with 9 bots and then 19 bots. It is more likely to crash when I am using 19 bots (but it still crashes with only 9). Is the number of bots enabled causing the crash. I can play 32-player ons matches with little problems (it lags at the start, but that's about it).

And when ons is working, I do see decals on the terrain (blood, bullet marks, etc), but the blood effects that come with BW have ugly boxes around them when viewed from a distance. And it crashes the game, not my computer.

So anyway, I will disable decals and maybe lower weapon detail to see if that fixes the issue.

I know using BW in ons is causing the crash, but the crashes are really random and I get a different error message everytime.

UPDATE: It appears disabling decals (in settings) did fix my problem indeed. Just played 3 ONS games (2 of them with 31 bots) and no issues (we won kinda easily though, maybe I should up the difficulty?). I had full gore enabled. I noticed, though, that blood effects look weird on natural terrain (snow, grass, rock, etc). Will that be fixed?

You forgot to update UT2004 to the latest version, you are still running the release build from 2004. Apply the 3369 patch and see what happens.
