Post subject:  Running Bloody Hell on Multiplayer Server Causes Freeze

Hello everyone!

I've been trying to get back into Unreal 2004 with some friends, and I figured the Bloody Hell mutator would be a wonderfully gruesome addition. However, every time I try to run a Deathmatch server with it on, everyone (including myself) ends up sitting at the "Loading..." screen indefinitely once we join the server, even though the server acknowledges that the player is in. The server works fine with it off, however. Is there any way to get it to work?

Did you add the BW serverpackages?

Are you selecting BW deathmatch or normal? the BW modes include the bloody hell by default, if you didn't know. the mut. just forces it on w/e game type you're playing.

Also, as he said, server packages have to be configured. Also a reminder to update the game to ... I don't remember the version.

Um. I can't think of anything else.

edit: oh! that also happens if you enable too many guns at once. Sometimes the first load just takes FOREEEEEVER.

No, I didn't add the BW server packages; I didn't realize that Bloody Hell required the whole Ballistic shabang. I don't know how to add server packages (or what they are), but I'll check out the stickied topic and try it next time I host.

Yeah, I was selecting normal DM.

For the BW game types you don't need to enable the mutator but you do still need to enable server packages.

You mentioned checking the sticky, so it sounds like you're on the right track.

Also note you'll need to enable the pack for any extra weapon packs you have. (sargeant kelly's or kaboodles, etc) but they all include install instructions anyways.

I can't seem to find UT2004.ini in my Unreal 2k4 folder at all, including system. I am updated to the latest version. The only INI files I have are:

BallisticV25
BallisticVehiclesV25
BEVehiclesV14
Build
BWCache
Default
DefUnrealEd
DefUser
Gibalicious2
JunkWarV25
Manifest
ServerFilters
UDNHelpTopics
UnrealEdTips
User

It should be in the system folder. You running the steam version? Or retail?

if steam, verify the cache and check system. (It helps to sort by file type if you aren't.)

if retail, run the game normally, load a regular match and kill someone with no mutators or non-default settings and then close it via menu and it should remake the file in the system folder.

Hm, I wonder if i can fit the thing here under a code tag.

Neither, actually - I'm running the GOG version.

I'll try your suggestion, though.

Just tried this. Still no UT2004.ini in the system folder. There is a "default.ini" file that has a section for system packages. Would this be it?

Just found it! Apparently Windows 7 has a funny thing where installing to the Program Files folder automatically puts some files into your user folder rather than the intended folder. What a drag!

Edit: I've added the required lines to the ini, and I can now host a server with Bloody Hell just fine. Will other players have to download the entire Ballistic Weapons pack in order to play with that mutator on?

I am not sure but I suppose they will have to since bloody hell is pretty much bound to BW or at least not seperated enough to be downloaded individually.

I.. don't actually know. Would be safer to assume so, since that'd just streamline everything just in case.

Also, odd that it's not in the right place. Must be unique to your version of the game. I run 7 and both steam/retail copies of mine don't do that.

Assuming that they will have to download it, is that done automatically if someone joins a server without the mod? Would it be faster to just give a direct link to the mod itself?

Post subject:  Re: Running Bloody Hell on Multiplayer Server Causes Freeze

They will need to download Ballistic Weapons to use bloody hell. Linking them to ModDB or another mirror would likely be faster unless maybe you have a redirect server or something like that.

What a hassle. But I have a bunch of custom maps as well, so perhaps a redirect server would be ideal, given how many free ones there are. I'll look up how those work. Thank you!
