| Post subject: | Crucible Update - July |
Greetings all!. I come with some updated info on The Crucible's progress. Firstly, sorry for the delay in giving you info on what we are up to, we've been quite busy, with what I cannot say. While i personally have been busy with mostly The Crucible, and i'm please to say that it's in it's final stages. We should have some kind of release out in the near future, we just need to test various things first. At any, here is a new features list: -The UI has been redesigned for the third time now, and given a grey and red theme, the functionality has been improved and made more unique. -Awesome Gore with all the trimmings, Spatters, Dismemberment, Drips, Sounds, and an Explosion cloud. -Lightning gun included, has some neat gore effects for it too. -Per character family gibs -Improved map visuals, Light Shafts, Bloom, Sharper details, Lightmass, it just looks AWESOME! -New and improved pickups, Armor and small Health, although not much has changed. -No Road Rage gametype, sorry but it had to go. -No Team Selection, instead now uses a count of up to 6 teams per game -No Team customization menu -Cleaner settings system, removed unused and unneeded settings. -No UT/UDK content, no pickups, weapons, HUD, gametypes, or aything that's from UT3. -Less UTness, more unique style and look. -Improved keyboard functionality in UI scenes. And some pics to help you grasp the changes, sorry about the size, i had to scale them down: The new UI's main menu, you can clearly see the general theme of it. ![]() A more technical UI menu which shows how it generally looks and functions. ![]() Thanks to the newer UDK, and some awesome work from SB, our maps now have even better lighting and Light Shafts, which you can clearly see in the top left. ![]() As you can see, we have made a few changes, although there is alot more work to be done before The Crucible is feeling and looking right, it's closer than it's ever been, and i think you'll all enjoy it. |

Oh, well then.. We'll see about future updates of 'this' version. However, we would like to remake the Crucible as it was intended. That is however alot more work for us at the moment. We'll see what happens over time |

Yup, the menus are now a piece of cake to use, and look a whole lot more unique, as well as awesome.. The game itself also had various improvements.. No to mention the maps, one word: ![]() And yes, i would like to mention that this is not the desired end for The Crucible, but our resources are limited and we must choose our battles, so The Crucible may, or may not be getting further development time right now.. |

A quick thought, spend a lot of time on the UT3 forums and one very common complaint that popped up was the feeling of the mouse. This is due to input lag, type in "stat fps" in console to see this. In UE3 there's two things that heavily influence the mouse heavily. Mouse smoothing and your framerate. Mouse smoothing: In UT3 they enabled mouse smoothing by default, this is bad. Mouse smoothing was meant for the games back in the day when 30fps was considered fast. It's just inconsistent, inconsistency is bad for aiming. Framerate: Vsync increases input lag a lot, frame smoothing is a lot better in capping the frames. Frame smoothing. The default in UT3 at release was 45 before they changed it to 60. This is a good way to keep a stable framerate without increasing the input lag, which is important for your aim. The problem in UT3 though is that you can't change this value in the menu, I personally try to play my UT3 at a constant 90fps, but have to edit the ini in order to do so. Should keep the default at 60, but include a dropbox where someone can choose between (45,60,75.,90,120) FPS more FPS = lesser input delay. misc: Enabling "Disable one thread lag" can improve the feel of your mouse but is way too costly on resources to be even considered. Can have the opposite effect... |

Yeah, selling the Crucible as it is now is just, well, stupid, who would buy a game thats not working how it's supposed to and lacking lots if content, i know i wouldn't, unless it's real cheap.. So it's got a way to go still.. As for what the game currently has in the way of content, well there are 6 maps, and 10 gametypes. We at least have a semi-complete UI, and enough gametypes & weapons, so we won't have to create more, unless we decide otherwise.. |

Yeah, well i mean an FPS which would be sold for more than a few cents, otherwise you could sell just about anything for a few cents and never make a living, then people would buy it for sure. But we'd like to make a decent profit for our years of hard work.. |
