Hey guys,

Big fan of the weapons, great work, I will follow your projects in future.

I'm in the process of setting up my first UT3 server and decided that I wanted to run your weapons using the weapon replacers, and have stumbled across a problem with the fact your weapons are split across packages.

Basically, the problem is that not all the maps I plan to run on my server has all the default Unreal weapons on them. So if someone joins a map that say, lacks the bio weapon pick up which I replace with the grenade, then the server (or redirect in my case) will send only the .upk for the weapons currently on the map at the time for players that join. If the player then stays connected to the server whist it changes to a map that does have the bio weapon pick up, it will then start sending them the missing package whist they are in the map.

The problem here of course is they don't have the package and can't see the grenade pickups (or whatever weapon they were lacking), even after the download is finished. They will have to reconnect in order to see it.

So I was wondering if either

A) you guys know of a way to force all the packages when someone first connects to the server (much like the serverpackages system in UT2004). I did have a google around and have no idea if it's possible

B ) You can recompile the .u to make sure all the packages are forced (dunno if that's possible, I don't code)


C) You would be willing to re release the mutator with all the weapon assets packed into a single .upk?

It's pretty much a deal breaker for me if I can't work this out, which is a shame because they are fantastic weapons and I'd love to support you guys and the projects by running them and advertising your website. Any help appreciated, and regardless of the outcome consider me a fan.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Runestorm are currently hard at work on their first to-be-commercial game Rooks Keep, so do not be too optimistic that an update is coming any time soon. Ballistic Weapons 2.5 and Crucible 1.2 were sort of "good bye" patches for their Unreal Tournament mod projects.

If content can be decompiled like in the UE2.5 engine then perhaps with their permission you can modify the mod to resolve this problem and use it on your server. Though in my opinion this seems important enough to warrant an official update.

Let's see what the devs say, they roam these boards on regular basis.

I'm hoping that there is an option to force the game to load the packages. Changing the content, and recompiling code will break compatibility and is not such a quick job.. I'll see what our coders have to say :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

I know it's a lot to ask and I don't hold out much hope anything will be done of course. It's a weakness of the engine that from what I read causes issues with many things (for example, vote mutators, if an admin sets up a vote mutator and it wins the vote, everyone that was ingame will join the new map, with the mutator enabled, but download the packages whist in the game).

It would be quite a job to repackage up the weapons into single .upk and also amend the code to point to the right packages. I'd even be willing to do it (I can code enough to make those kinda edits) but I'd need the uncooked, stock files witch they may no longer have or be unwilling to pass out (understandable). If they did, they have my word I'd not alter anything other then to get the weapons actually working for what I need them for (i'd not remove the splash screen that displays when people join, happy to pimp the site).

I wish to god Epic just left the option for ServerPackages. If nothing else I want all that join my server to get all it's content the first time they join anyway, regardless of these issues (So no downloading between maps).

I couldn't find any options or anything to preload packages for UT3 :(

By the way, does downloading the script file not download the content with it?
