I've been working on these guns for about a week or two, as you have seen from the Runestorm forums. I'm getting more of the variants finished, but I'm not satisfied... a little help on ideas anyone? (and no, no bulge removing comments (maybe make it higher poly?)!)

The bullpup versions still look pretty awkward. The butt of the gun is a little too small, and the magazine is a little too far to the back. It's hard to imagine all of the necessary gun components fitting in there. Also, with most of the mechanics shifted to the rear, you wouldn't need the bulky squarish bit right in front of the trigger.

For comparison purposes, here are some real-world bullpup weapons.

Also, the front end of the gun could maybe use some work. The gas port thing could probably be enclosed in the gun's shell, to protect it from damage.

kay, I'll do the clip placement change ASAP. The front square bit... hmm, how could I explain how this gets removed in this variant set... Guess it could be modified by a completely removable part... that can make sense, but make it more prone to a realistic idea of getting messed up...

That front gas porting? That was where I planned to mount a laser pointer! Of course it won't be used for the Sniper Rifle version, but the barrel bit then it used for the infrared vision I planned on trying to make. I think it looks cool with it, but I can also see how it will look without the front barrel assembly.

It would certainly look cleaner without the exposed gas port.

More stuff:

-The magazines look really skinny for a rifle. They look like SMG mags, or something in between.

-Checking your post on the RS forums, hollow-points are a bad idea for rifles, as they're no good for penetrating body armor. Just go for the full jacket.

-What advantage would there be in choosing the standard design over the bullpup?

-The sniper's scope looks somewhat plain. Maybe a more futuristic design would be more welcome here. Also, the front sight looks like it may block the scope's view

-The sniper's barrel length seems to defeat the purpose of a bullpup weapon. It's really long.

-Vertical front foregrip?

Skinny in width or length? The width is about the gun's total width at widest. I'm trying to make the gun a 6.5mm FMJ round.

See above, I'm going to 6.5mm FMJs.

Less chaos to deal with. While recoil is higher, you can run and gun with the standard version. That and I plan to maybe add a grenade launcher if I ever get around to it.

Hmm... more futuristic rather than a simple scope... I can try that! The front sight surprisingly is actually lower than the scope, but not by much (about .625 of a unit, where most of the gun is modeled using .3125 as the base unit).

It's meant to increase accuracy by barrel length in the sniper variant, not for mobility. It kinda DOES defeat that purpose, but it's also simply meant for longer range sniping.

Heh... I can do that! Which variant(s) should it be on?

Here's what I did in 15 minutes:

Hey Xav or cyber, can this thread be moved to the Modeling/Animation section?
