Finally got around to seriously working on one. I'm reworking ne of my first models and am gong to use that. The model itself is pretty much done, just trying to figure out how I'm going to UV map the blade. Attachment: Chainsaw v3.JPG I plan to make the chainsaw stall out under water and kick up into your face if you aren't careful with it, causing quite a bit of damage to yourself. Would also be nice to include an RPM feature, where prolonged contact with stuff runs down the RPMs, and if the chain stops spinning while in cntact with something, it gets stuck or something. Dunno. Wouldn't want it too complicated, but I'd like to add a bit more realism and skill requirements to the chainsaw. Any ideas? Suggestions? Also, I'm gonna add some reinforcements to the bar to make it a little bit more combat ready. Should look awesome. |

Bar reinforcements installed. It is now combat ready! Just needs uV mapping, the pull cord, then animating now. |

Lovely model. All I can ask for is... maybe some more... edgy chain? Iunno, it could look cooler with the chain itself to be more chained looking. I think it would be so much more menacing looking that way! |

Chainsaw is Almost done being UV mapped, and I got a story wrote up for it. Cookie to whoever finds out what I'm paying homage to. XLR 28 Combat Chainsaw Primary Fire: Stabbing Lunge Secondary Fire: Upwards Stab Special: Block Inspired by the heroic acts of a sole UTC Phobos Marine, this chainsaw is a variant of a civilian saw, well known for its reliable performance and ability to take a beating. With various improvements, such as adjustable bar reinforcements, durable alloy frame, armoured outer casing, and an upper blade guard, this saw can go through hell and back and still keep on running. While it is an icon of the Phobos Marines, it is only issued to a small number of soldiers due to its general awkwardness in close quarters combat and its inherent danger to the unskilled user. |

Combat Chainsaw? Seriously? Also, I think the story behind the chainsaws in DOOM was that there was a shipping error. They were supposed to be jackhammers. |

I think that was only in Doom 3. The Phobos Marines of Doom 1 and 2 didn't have much of a story behind their chainsaws. Though that saw looks pretty awesome, Xavious. |

I still wonder what it would've been like with jackhammers... OH right just like UT's impact hammer. |

Precisely. However, Xav's been the main one wanting a chainsaw in BW. He also did decide to pay the RS guys to make one, but he got stuff with the wrong kind of money transfer thingy or something of that sort... |

Yes, Combat Chainsaw. Seriously. Just a regular chainsaw with more durable materials and extra bar reinforcements. Not exactly too improbable. And its not like its something thats employed in regular military service anyways. And its only Doom 3 when the chainsaws were a shipping error, never realy explained in the Classic Dooms. I was tempted to make a reference to that, too, but I figured it'd be too obvious. |

| Post subject: | Re: Chainsaw |
It's very improbable. Chainsaws are just incredibly impractical for combat. They're big, loud, heavy, and their design is centered around cutting things that don't move. I doubt a Skrith or Cryon is going to just hold still and let a guy rip him up. If it's going to be an actual military weapon, you need to give it a more combat-oriented design, like Space Marine chainblades, or those chainsaw bayonets in Gears. Otherwise, it's a lumberjack's tool. |

So you're telling me a single handed saw would be more ideal for combat? Barring the massive weight of a chainsword, the grip isn't big enough to hold it with one hand. You wouldn't be able to even control it unless you were a mighty Space Marine. That thing would jump out of your hands as soon as it hit something solid, like bones. Assuming it could even bite that deep. Ever look closely at those things? Has a big design flaw: the shroud over the saw is easily 3 inches wide. The blade would only be able to sink in as far as the teeth protrude from the shroud, then get stopped by the excess surface area added by it. As far as the chainsaw bayonet goes, that'd still have a tendacy to try and pull from your hands, if the gun its attached to is held anything like a traditional firearm. I personally don't know off hand. Besides, I want a full out chainsaw, not a bayonet. I have a feeling whoever designed the modern chainsaw probably had control of the tool in mind. I personally think if you want a weapon combat ready, you'd implement it in such a way so that you would have optimal control of it, regardless of how awesome it looks. As far as cutting through things goes, they cut through flesh just fine. And quickly. Its those darn bones that mess things up. Unless you use a chain designed for cutting bone. Chainsaws are used for so much more than cutting wood, by the way. Anyways, you'll find you have more people in favour of seeing a more traditional chainsaw in BW than not. Practicality doesn't make much difference in a video game. Why does the Classic Dooms, Doom 3, UT99, Serious Sam, and likely, many others, have chainsaws in them? Because people likes them some bloody good chainsaw fun. Oops, forgot to mention that my Chainsaw IS FULLY UV MAPPED! WOOO! Now to animate it! |

Yeah, turns out I forgot to upload the version that had the chainsaw in it. Uplading it now, should be available within 15 minutes. Sorry about that. By the way, could you get nothing to show up, or just not the chainsaw? |

Nothing, the kite machete and both sabres were in the arena settings and the weapons profiles(ut2k4 options menu)but nowhere else. They would not appear in game either. |

Wait... Machete...? BOTH sabres...? I think the only weapons in there is the kite shield, a single sabre, a hatchet, and now, a chainsaw. But if they won't show up in game, thats really weird. I do finally got the newest version up (forgot to click submit before logging off last time |
