I've started to try getting my hand down at modeling vehicles and such, so I decided to start with the most important part of a car that is modern: the tire and rim assembly. For those who understand tires and sizing of them, this specific tire is meant to be placed on 16in rims, hence why it's a 16/20/285. For those who don't understand that, it just means this tire is for 16 inch rims, has a sidewall to width ratio of 20%, and is 285 mm wide. Quite a wide tire for considering that a lotta cars are 225mm wide or less, but normal sized for a higher performance car. I'm intending to expand this model so I have the rest of the car also created some time soon. I'm thinking the rest of the car might be something similar to a Corvette C6R, or maybe a Mazda RX-7 FC3S. -- Edit: Whoop-de-doop, I screwed up with Maya's sizing crap with cylinders. This one's actually a 16/40/142.5 tire since I forgot about making the model 2x wider in the end. Edit2: Added in a new pic, this one showcasing how I have brakes in this thing now. The brakes are just simply 12in discs and a giant brake shoe. If you can't tell by now, this is pretty much a racing vehicle I'm shooting for with the size of the tire and brake assembly. |

wouldnt that cause lag, unless its made into a static mesh, not a brush? |

This is Maya, not Unreal Editor. Unlike UE, you can actually use the scaling tools without causing really stupid problems. But this model would probably cause lag no matter what in 2k4, since it's well over 5k verts and I've only gotten bits and pieces of the front end in their basic shapes. I don't have a pic yet, but I've also got the front fender pretty much done. Edit: Got the fender pretty much done. If you think about it, it's kinda like a mix of a Corvette C6R's front end mixed with the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow (Sprint Cup) front end. Edit2: Got the hood, side panels, and windshield added. I'll add the detailing of these parts whenever I get the car actually almost fully modeled out. Attachment: K6R01v4_1.PNG Attachment: K6R01v6_1.PNG

Well I forgot to update this thread! I have a bit more done with the car now, but not all that much... |

Thanks! Still working on that rear bumper though.... there's just something about it that I don't like... maybe it's not long enough...? |

Do you subdivide your models? |

No, all the stuff here was done by mostly using the extrude tool. That and a lot of face deleting! Vehicle parts seem to be best made by using the extrude tool, or so I've figured out so far. |

New post for new content! -- I had a lot more done on the last version of the cockpit area, but I scrapped it after getting pretty much 70% done with it. That windshield was too thick, and was not very wide, nor good for aerodynamics realistically (too short...). So now, I've reworked the windshield to be thinner, wider, longer, and also more aerodynamic. You might recognize it to also look more similar to the C6R's windshield in base shaping, which was obviously done since I'm using the Corvette C6R and the NASCAR Car of (Today) Tomorrow as the basis of this car. Other than that, I also have most of the underside of the car closed up, and the wheel wells actually are also closed up. Obviously you can't see that... but that's done too. I still gotta finish the exterior of the cockpit, and then work on the spoiler. I'm not so sure what to do for the interior without just doing the standard minimalistic interior of a normal racecar from the early 21st century. I was actually thinking to make the interior more like something I'd think they'd create for a newer rollcage and such... |

What it really needs is a set of cup holders. |

Everything's better with a "Self-Destruct" button. |

hmmm, that's a good idea, make something like UT3 Scorpion. i love destroying Goliaths with the suicide mode. well, suicide for the car. |

It's a race car, not an UT vehicle. Maybe something for Unwheel, but not anything shooting. Plus, any weapons would just be adding weight, and reduce aerodynamics, so it'd not something you want on this type of vehicle. It's supposed to be a GT2 class car (C6R was GT1, but this doesn't have nearly as high of aero shaping due to the combination to the CoT design influences). I don't feel like it's really all that much to be showing on the Unwheel forums because it's not done enough, nor even up to spec of what they do (they model the interiors too, something I'm not sure of what I was going to do). That and I still can't UV map worth 2 cents. |
