Thor, one of thier major gods, has a warhammer as his symbol, they used them a lot. I'm pretty sure they used them more than swords.

Well actually the used more swords although they where more expensive . Also they used axes and a blade thats named Saex ( a multipurpose knife/dagger ) and spears. Warhammers were used but not that often (they used them near the end of their pillaging and terrorising ages and the begining of their setteling in Normandy (France) )

has anyone considered that marksmanship is an art? guns are every bit as difficult to use as sword. pistols are extremely difficult to master, while sniping and long range shooting is an art in an of itself, with having to compensate for movement, windage all that good stuff, not to mention control in breathing. this limits effective weapons for a newbie to shotguns and automatics(which are really not easy to use(my c7 ran wild first time i fired it on auto) anyway guns are not easy to use....ive seen it at the shooting range quite a bit

while with a sword if you can reach out and touch it chances are your going to be able to hit it. also bear in mind i have yet to see a game where the character using the guns isnt explaned to having prior experiance before the time of the game, paralleling on that the medival ages were a unsure time, with many conflicts so i could understand a peasant having some training in arms, and seeing as the most common weapon was the sword that would only be a natural choice, they may not master it right away but that comes with practice

....all this is kind of like when you first pick up the game you do alright with the controls, and then you learn as you progress. more on the games..the average story of an adventure game rarely goes past 30 hours...so you are compressing a lifetime of the character into that 30 hours or less

funny how theres no complaint on the fact that theres such good accuracy for guns in shooters, but if the peasant is a good swordsman then thats a problem...come to think of it the only game that really even comes close to a character learning how to use guns is GTA: San Andreas, and even then that is very very simplified

Well, BW does replicate the usage of a gun pretty good, I think; having to worry about steadying your aim, actually using the gun to aim and not the magical crosshairs...

But to be fair... I just picked up a gun I've never used before two days ago and got a headshot on a bird first try. I have had very little experience in shooting before hand, so it doesn't take too much knowledge to shoot a gun with decent accuracy while standing still, although generally they aren't standing still, and they are generally using bigger guns...

So yeah, it is a bit unrealistic, but really, who wants to spend a large chunk of the game having your guy learn how shoot a gun?

There is a good reason for that, reality in shooters sucks. You'd be pressing quickload more often that run forward.

or repawning/being dead for the rest of the round, considering that RO and AA are the most relistc games out there and being MP quickloading isn't poisble...

Easilt answered, you'd get as* bored if you only wielded a crossbow or bow throughout your journey.

what? wouldn't you be just as board if you only used a sword?

well at least with a sword you can hopefully pull off cool combos or decapitaing moves on your foes, plus you get to rush in a see close up the great look on the other guys face (not really) when you slice his rib cage open (nows that an FPS medieval game i want)

how do you do that when all your doing is casting spells and hting attack?

Oh I beg to difer when 1 you encounter a Flan arch typed foe (max def low Mdef) and when you can stack attack buffs

the only swords use en massa where shortswords and daggers and even then they still required a rather large amount of effort
