No, it isn't, Monolith released the multi player part of F.E.A.R for free to anyone, though getting a CD key is piss annoying.

Stop this illegal-discussion bullshit, FEAR Combat is as legal as it gets as a free multiplayer game.

But how is it different from the regular games' MP modes?

No difference whatsoever, its the same as the multiplayer you get when you buy the game, only now the multiplayer is free.

Yeah, the multiplayer element is free, and has been for quite some time. Even so, it's still (In my eyes) a great move on Monolith's part, and I wish the same idea would be taken by more game devs (Of course, some not included, I.E. Battlefield & UT series, being based on their multiplayer aspect). At least by making the multiplayer component free, it keeps the game alive longer (People not wanting to actually buy the game can be easily inclined to participate in the multiplayer realm, keeping servers active), and may even make some people want to buy an actual copy to experience the excellent single-player campaign.

So yeah, perfectly legal, and I urge anyone here who's wanted to try it out to go ahead and give it a go. It's awesome fun (Especially the close quarters combat- roundhouse kicking someone going for the slo-mo in the dark is quite amusing, or grenading the guy trying to do the roundhouse kicking... All sorts of fun )

I think the MP should be free but limited, the company that makes a game doesn't get any money for offering their creation for free. So they should do something to attract people to buy the full game.

I never liked the melee in FEAR, I prefer shooting things to hell and back.

I liked the stealth portion of the game. Oh and cover using to kill stuff.

jeez the guns really hurt players in fear so i wind up in a body bag before the end of the match

If FEAR Combat supports the expansion, the minigun can do some serious damage to your opponents.

A friend of mine was telling me about how foolish folks can be online (Running straight into obvious melee ambushes/proxy mines), so I had a lot of fun showing him which is a lot more powerful- Some fisticuffs vs. a grenade to the face (Many times taking me out with it, but that still kept us even )

I think my favorite part of fear has to be the grenades- They just feel "right", and the blood-explosions they result in 90% of the time are oh-so satisfying ('Specially in slo-mo )

I like it better to see the bodies fly somewhere instead of gibbing.

yeah, i tried F.E.A.R on my 360, it rocked, not the multiplayer (i don't have XBL), i loved how you could just toss a grenade, then go back and just see blood red covering everything, i almost always wanted my opponent (the AI) to blow up instead of just dying.

Yeah, it would be nice if there were some limbs and scorched innards left of the poor guy after a good gibbing, but that's what we've got BW 2.0 for!

Meh. FEAR Combat is faster paced that UT, and gets you killed faster than CS. This could be cool, but to me, it combines the best of both worlds in a way that feels really messed up.

FEAR Combat never really caught with me.

EDIT: I'm working on beating FEAR singleplayer using nothing but grenades/mines and melee attacks. I'd try it using just the melee attacks, but then what do you do about the powered armor suits?

You are screwed against them unless you got a lot of grenades to spend.

Read his post again. Melee only is impossible, so grenades will have to do the trick.

Yeah. . .If I conserve grenades against everyone else, there should be enough for taking out the handful of mechs in the game.
