Well, as soon as they tighten up the edge blur and the transparent weapons, I think it'll be a nice graphical upgrade for an aging classic.

And I do agree with the scale idea... Maybe different textures could correspond with different textures, and perhaps have a sort of pre-set for each map (So it'll automatically set itself depending on what map you're playing). It wouldn't fit to have a super-bright bloom in a dark map, but it would be nice to have just a small touch to make the lights that are present a bit prettier.

Yeah. . .I can definetly see why these guys wanted bloom ingame, bloom is definetly one of the better effects that's been added to games in recent years.

But, as has been said, it's an attempt to fake an effect that the engine doesn't support. I'm sure it can be done, but it would probably take a lot more than the fairly simplistic stuff in this mutator. It's a good start, but there are some obvious problems, and I'm not sure how to make the engine cope with them without doing a lot of recoding.

But it can be done, and it can be done well, as anyone who'se played Red Orchestra's retail version knows. But I've neither the time nor the inclination to try and dig up how they did it. Lazy me.

I did a DM conversion and it makes an awesome DM map. Even better than Jailbreak or CTF... IMO.

On the topic of it being slow... SavoIsland is the best map ever for framerates for me, but with Bloom on... it quickly had a compy death on my. Went from about 40FPS to just over 25FPS... I could see the choppyness every once in a while... not good I tell ya!!!

With everything on max and bloom on I could play all levels with around 35 fps. But for some reason when I throw Ballistic weapons mutator on my fps goes to around 19 fps, I'm not complaining but why does my fps suffer when I'm using ballistic weapons?

I have no idea, my guess is more detailed weapon models and a pretty big AI code that the processor needs to work on. Overall the code just seems to be heavier in BW than the default game.

Well thats one of the draw backs to playing such an awesome mod.

It's not a drawback to me at least. I average around 80 FPS at max settings, 4xAA/16xAF with the bloom mod and BW on in CTF-Face3 to name an example. Although it got as low as 50.

But what do you expect when combining bloom with AA?

Well, I don't think bloom is gonna hurt your preformance as long as you've got a video card that's up to speed, since UT04 is much more CPU intensive. If you're already getting good frames, then the bloom won't really hurt your preformance, whereas if your CPU is already bottlenecking preformance...

The bloom here is just a fake rendering, which is done by the processor.
When I disabled bloom, my framerate more than doubled. Either it is because of the AA or the fake effect is simply very heavy on the processor.

What kind of processor you got again?

Actually that is thanks to my 7900 GTX, since UT2004 is the only 2004+ game I have that is more CPU than GPU dependant.

Where do you put the files in the "Dreamland" folder?

I just put them in their correct folders, System, Textures, etc.
I don't know why the author made it a seperate folder, it is not like it is a TC. So just move the files to the default folders.
