Wow, an Oblivion thread. The game itself is pure crap, it's just an empty world with imbecile console rules. But after installing a hundred mods or so you can turn your Oblivion into an RPG of your dreams. The difference between modded and vanilla Oblivion is just shocking and can not be conveyed through words. So if you are ready to spend some fifty or sixty hours constructing a game of your own out of a copy of Oblivion and a pile of mods, you'll finally succeed.

Sorry to say KylinRage but that just looks plain crappy as compared to Qarl's Texture Pack III. I'm surprised to see you didn't mention it among your favourite mods. However it owns my new Intel Core 2 Quad / GF8800 Ultra system, fps is around 30-40 in some places... but looks awesome, like a real movie and not a game.

There are thousands of Oblivion mods, around a hundred of them being must have ones. Some of the mods require software like Wrye Bash! or OBSE to run. The only way to figure everything out is to go to the forums and use the mighty search button. It may take a while, however this is the shortest way to get all the mods working all right without conflicts. For example, you have to install some important fixes if you want to make Oscuro's Overhaul compatible with Martigen's Mod... (spoiler: Oblivion is worthless crap if played without Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul due to balance reasons... you won't like the fact that vanilla Oblivion has a tradition of setting all the enemies to the same level as your character, that means if you're level 8, you won't find any enemies stronger than level 8 anywhere in the game world... well, playing Oblivion without OOO is far more convincing than my words, just try it out and you'll be downloading OOO the next day)

Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine are actually only small additions to the game, but they're really cool. Also those two are needed by a lot of mods, so having them is a must.

P.S. Actually my favourite Oblivion mod is that one that brings back vanilla morrowind interface with a normal compass, tiny menus all over the place instead of those console-style bulky ones and a grid inventory just like in Morrowind

I'll address each one of your probs:

1. for textures, I've been looking for a certain texture mod that has a sharper resolution and less bright textures. I might possibly try Qarl's Texture Pack, but I don't think the vanilla textures suck. It wouldn't harm you in anyway if I didn't get the texture pack (except for maybe burning the eyes out of your sockets)

2. I have my sources. Do not worry about what mods I use. What I care about is NOT the best visuals, but the variety and unique qualities that I have in them. (Martigen already made his mod compatible with OOO Francescos and any other mod.

3. I do know the leveled list is a piece of crap, that's why I have... Modular Oblivion Enhanced. OOO's a lot better, but MOE is my current replacement right now. It undermines the leveled gameplay so that you might encounter ogres and wolves stronger than you.

4. SI is an actual expansion, but like some people say, it's not expansive enough. I know a lot of mods depend on SI, for example, Deadly Reflex 4 (Mounted Combat is awesome). OBSE and OBMM are very important tools too.

5. By the way, it's not like EVERYTHING is weaker or the same as you. Some certain enemies have a PC level plus 5 or something, so they're always stronger by 5 levels.

Conclusion: I know what I'm doing. I'm that kind of person who needs to feel like it before downloading something. So it's okay. I've been through the all too gentle learning curve and stuff like that.

P.S. Baklajan, if you have that Qarl's Texture Pack III, can you show me some sample screenshots of it? I'm considering downloading it.


EDIT: If your comp can't handle the Texture Pack in some places, mine probably will run at 10 fps. It's already running like that for reasons I don't know. My FPS rate is completely random in-game. For a moment you have 20-30 fps, then when you leave Anvil and head out to the Brina Cross Inn, you get 2 FPS.

My message was largely addressed to everybody and was not intended for teaching you how to find mods. I thought it would be better to redirect everybody to the official forums which have links to a lot of major OB sources rather than suggest mods in this thread...

Currently I have my new computer in another apartment so I don't have access to all the luxury of QTP, however I do have a few screenshots on this one with a visual comparison... I'll post them here a bit later today.

I don't like the vanilla textures at all, they look worse than some of the Morrowind Hi-Res custom texture packs. QTP has a low-res version but even that gives you a better picture...

Okay I'll try that out, sorry if I overreacted. By the way, have you tried deadly reflex and MOE before? Those are my two faves besides OOO and MMM.

I even changed the OBSE .exe so it launches oblivion from oblivion.dll (renamed oblivion.exe) to avoid myself from launching oblivion.exe (which is now oblivion.dll) without OBSE and thus corrupting my game... I love them OBSE mods.

P.S. Qarl's Texture Pack III doesn't prevent you from setting textures from High Quality to Medium. You'll get better textures anyway, even as compared to vanilla High Quality. So not only top machines can handle this.

By the way, here's a new recommended mod for all those blood-thirsty players out there:

Deadly Reflex 3.32:
Allows you to use axes and swords to decapitate your opponents. Allows you to shield bash. Mounted combat is not yet perfected, and a special explosion spell is added.

KylinRage, have you ever seen the Dwemer Spectacle mod? There is another mod that uses it and gives glasses/goggles/eyepatchs to different NPCs via scripting.

Nope, i've never seen a spectacle mod of any sort. Maybe a certain mod that gives certain characters special headgear to fit their look, but no, never have I heard of a Dwemer Spectacle mod.

I think I found them on tessouce.net, but I'm not sure. The spectacles themselves were made by Kafei, and the equiper was made by MadCat.

By the way, when did deadly reflex 4 come out?
