i was just running speedfan in the background and logged the temperature graph. after about 10 mins of UT3, i switched windows to look on in horror as my GPU temperature was 105 C . i got a geforce 220 and it runs ut3 beautifully, but i dont think its supposed to be this hot. anyone know what a good temp is to go for at full load? the intrawebz say around 70, just wondering what you guys have. also what are some good external cooling options, i looked inside the case and the fans are set up so that i cant really put another one in there so i gotta think about something else. anyone got any suggestions?

edit: i just did some more stuff, and in low res (800x600 instead of 1152x864) the temp doesnt go insane, it just hovers slightly above 70.

strangely though, my CPU is at a cool 45 degrees even on high load...is there a way to make the cpu do some of the GPUs work?

No, unless you asked a programmer to modify the engine, and since GPUs slaughter CPUs in terms of output, you would see a noticeable performance decrease.

My GPU btw (a factory overclocked Geforce 7900 GTX) idles at around 40 and is 60 - 65 at full load.

got it good again at 70ish with a couple fans. also, does anyone know if you can mess with the wires on a 3 pin fan to make it 4 pin?

If your fan AND motherboard do not have 4-pin conntectors, then I don't think there is any way to add the functionality without a lotta work. the 3rd pin is to control fan speed and the 4th pin contains some other sort of data, like the actual fan speed, right?

Also, try adding "datasheet" or "maximum operating temperature" to your google search, siavash. I recall from my delving into what is considered "hot" for my CPU that if you can get your hands on the datasheet for the GPU or a snippet from the section on maximum operating temperatures, then you can see from there what the chi[ designer says is too hot for you.

I should figure what my 8800GTX runs or spikes at. All I know is my room gets hot with my desktop after half an hour.
