I don't understand why there is no flamethrower, I think they could have made a bit more guns.
But my main grippe with the new serious sam is the lack of crazy levels like in the second encounter.
Though despite of that I think I will get it anyway.

Nope but I know about it and some journalists asked about that and the developers said they were none.

If you mean the changeable gravity then yes, it is a limitation of the Serious Engines 2.0 and later due to the complexity of modern physics processing.

Those things yeah, because IMO they added a lot of fun and craziness.
Mostly when these were filled with kamikazes and hearing them screaming like a if they were formula one passing near you.

Oh those do look fun. Reminds me of the days when we were coming up with weapons for BW.
Call me a heretic if you're the religious type, but I'm not even worried about the pistol and m16-ish replacing the revolvers and tommygun. I hope the reloading works better in practice than it seems in theory... Also it would be super awesome if they've added more feedback to the weapons!

The Pistol I think looks a lot better than the revolvers, both in model and gameplay use.

Assault Rifle can take a hike, essentially being a reloadable tommy gun with a small zoom feature. I prefer the tommy gun over the assault rifle.

Sniper Rifle looks nice, along the minigun and the cannon.

Looks great! Those weapons look perfect. I'm a bit curious about the assault shotgun (looks vaguely reminiscent to the Halo Reach grenade launcher to me) and that guantlet thingy.

While I am somewhat concerned with reloading in a Serious Sam game, I'm sure it'll be fine considering how well BW meshes with lotsa monsters and how fun Reach is in Fire Fight.

I wonder if they got any more weapons tucked away into that game?

Also not 100% crazy about DE being the new pistol, would've preferred a more modern revolver (Mateba anyone?) or anything other than the DE really. Can totally live with it though.

Also, is it just me or does the sledge hammer seen to suggest some sort of tertiary fire with an overhead swing, horizontal swing, and 360 swing alt fire?

Something I pressed very harshly on Croteam was on weapon sounds, and other beta testers too actually. Because before Croteam finally started to Seriously! Beef up the feedback the guns were alarmingly pathetic when sounds and kick are concerned. The DE was so silent that you had to actually pay close attention to hear its sound at all, and the AR wasn't much better than that either.

It has drastically improved at this point but there are still ways to go imo.

The reloading isn't so bad, and only a small part of the arsenal actually needs to be.

Yeah, noticed in the first few trailers, the AR sounded even worse than the UT2004 Vanilla AR.

Worse than the UT2004 AR? That's.. pretty bad.

Still, if there is one thing that I think SS needed, it was better feedback from the weapons. New one looks to be as good so far though

Some mighty fine weapons as far as I'm concerned, and as long as they make them feel good too, we're in business!...

Well, maybe the serious engines for some strange reason can't handle it, but crazy gravity is certainly not a general problem for modern engines. Why I did some pretty insane stuff with gravity in UE3. Players walking on walls an ceilings with zero, weak, negative or varying.

They better listen to you. FEEDBACK!!! I want feedback! The previous SS games all lacked it. Feedback is how you make the guns must feel powerful.

It is for Croteam for one reason or another. Drop them a line if you are willing to write crazy gravity for their engine. You could get quite the buck from it.



I actually felt SS1 had great weapon feedback while SS2 lacked it completely. Charging the Cannon in SS1 vs. charging it in SS2 is like comparing wind to a magnitude 3 earthquake.

I think the animations and the sounds plays a lot for it, I think there is no need to have specific mechanics to make the guns feel powerful even if some screen shake or temporary weapon climb can make the job pretty well. Well the damage setting too, there is some games who have just the "perfect set"

I don't really care for the gravity stuff, I'm just being boring and technical and saying its not a limitation of modern engines. I'm sure they have a good reason for doing things whatever way they're doing them.

I only played the first and second encounters HD and I think that some of the weapons lacked (mostly visual) feedback.

All in all, the new SS certainly seems promising.

The lead programmer at Croteam already confirmed the gravity was too difficult to make dynamic with their advanced physics sub-system. Basically too little budget and/or time.

I for one, like the new modern redesigns of the classic SS weapons. IMO that AR looks much sexier than the tommy gun.

What I don't like is that the weapons are still the same old stuff (the plasma cannon is still a prototype?). Despite what the article says, I hope those are not ALL of the weapons and that there are some new ones to play with.

Also managing a worse AR sound than the UT2004 AR? Thats...impressive. The UT2004 AR sounded like you were shaking a box of cat biscuits. How do you manage a worse sound than that?

SS3 is a prequel to SS1. Confusing, I know.



Don't ask me. Croteam could use a guy like Sarge to take care of the sound effects. He knows what makes guns fun to shoot stuff with, and that is in his free time working with a rather shoddy engine that UE2.5 really is when audio is concerned.

Wait, if SS3 is a prequel to serious sam 1, then why does he have a sniper rifle in the prequel? He got in the second encounter and so forth, but here, I don't think it has to be there.

And in another confusing twist, where's the grenade launcher? It may not be popular, but it was in almost every serious sam game (barring Advance).

There is nothing particularly odd about a weapon appearing early in a game's story, disappearing and then reappearing later.

Another thing worth noting; in the prequel Sam hasn't gotten his red sneakers yet.

Armaments being inconsistent with established time frame > Poor/wimpy weapon selection.

I'm still lost on whats supposed to be confusing too.

A game that has a poorly implemented mechanic and that has its plot that is also not well thought out of is not a good sign IMO.

You're faulting a Serious Sam game for its plot... I'm not sure you're playing the game right if plot means anything to you in this type of game...

I dunno, I haven't tried this game.
Only way to see if I try it meself...
