well im screwd im probily not going to get a new one anytime soon besided all my stuff is on this one my bro has an older comp but it will run ut04even worse i think it has a voodo 3 vidoe card maybr beter

the comp my bro is using right now i think its a voodo 2 card while i tryed to run system shock 2 it got a horable graphical glitche than froze later in the game

so im going to be #@%*$$ for a while i wonder if anyone will be selling a penteum 3 prososor on ebay or
something if not this comp wont last long and i still wanted to use this comp to play quake 2 online and older games without doing all that stuff to get it to work on windows xp and stuff

Well no one can ever beat technology, once you get a Dual-core then another new line comes out that puts your 1000$ machine to shame so unless a game is completely unplayable on my 3.0 Pentium 4 im not switching.

A person that buys a computer (separate parts) for $1000 is guaranteed to last for years. But that depends on where you buy parts from. NewEgg is the cheapest, and trunkmonkey is from the US as far as I know.

There is not much point in DX10 these days, have you seen the benchmarks where they compare DX9 and DX10 performance with the same game?

But if you do want it anyways, you can get a 8600 GT for around $150.

Id rather have one now or soon before something goods done with Dx10 then have to switch later.

It is a better idea to wait for better video cards. Remember how awful the DX9 performance is with the Geforce FX series? It's probably the same with the Geforce 8s and DX10. I recommend waiting for future generations, maybe you'll get up to 2x better performance with DX10.

And trunkmonkey, DX10 doesn't suck at all, the thing you want to blame is the software & hardware support.
