Yeah, I was a bit surprised. There was a large rant on Nvidia about the 8000s with UE2 + drivers and all that; though nobody said anything about UE1. I guess I've got a special case.

Tell me what would you rate this piece of junk. I got a lot better performance by removing many WinXP services that I don't need, and tweaked the rest of the settings, with a bit overcloaked GPU and some physical modifications to it.

Making your video card invisible hardly improves performance.

But your system is alright I'd say, around low/medium-end. But remember to keep all old parts, don't throw them away that is. You never know when you want old hardware to play games that will be problematic on future systems, UT2004 is already showing symptoms of it's age on Geforce 8000 cards.

Actually, if you know what you're doing and you're smart about it, you can make a really sweet case case for relatively little cost.

take that sweet case Souls Stream showed us. That tube down the middle? Could easily have been a hose to an old vacuum, those smaller hoses that connect to a round thing lower on the case look like gauges from an automotive A/C refill kit. Looks like several car Stereo face plates have been used too.

I wouldn't be surprised if that case was made from bits and pieces found around the house and stuff.

I imagine something really cool could be made from some old kitchen appliances and car accessories, cut up some and painted, to make a really sweet case.

Of course, you still have those people that have $$$ to spend on a custom case, but you don't necessarily have to spend a lot to make something awesome.

Well, if you want to know, about the pod in the center, it's made first from clay on a wood support then crafted and finally he put a mold of resin on it to obtain the capsule (and then painted), he put a self painted doll in it. I wouldn't have the courrage to do that !
I'm no crafter, but thanks to warhammer I can paint quite well, but I wouldn't take the time for my comp.

But yes, it's not really expensive, some old materials are used (not that much though) like the vaccuum tube or the radio tape for the base. Aluminum tubing and styrene plastic tubing also used, but most things are detailed and the price is really low though he has artistic talents, which help decreasing the price I think

Since it's self made, it's water cooled (most of the time normal ventilation is not possible inside those artistical cases)

The problem is when you get fed up of your artistical case, you have to set it aside and make another or just put everything back in a new case (since usually they use the existing one they cut) lol

Yeah, UT99 also has the stuttering. I'm hoping that the newer drivers will fix this.

Don't waste your money on a PPU, that Q6600 will do just fine.
And it's a bummer you didn't wait for the Geforce 9800 GX2, the 8800 GT will drop in price significantly.
