I'm saving for a new rig. I've set myself an aproximately 1000 Euro budget. I did some browsing and was thinking of buying something like this: Chipset: ATI Crossfire XPress 3200 AM2 (+/- 100) CPU: AMD X2 4600+ Windsor (+/- 200) GPU: ATI Radeon x1900 XTX (+/- 300) RAM: 2 GB DDR2 (+/- 200) (Total: 800) Wich leaves me with aproximately 200 for a power supply to feed this system (first I'll check if my current one will do too). I've allready got a fine 120 GB SATA harddrive. My current system's specs are: Chipset: ? CPU: Pentium 4 2.4 GHz GPU: NVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 RAM: 512 MB of god knows what Why did I post this? Because I want some comments about the elements of the rig a cobbled together, about if the are compatible (I'm allmost certain they are) and if I can get it for the price I mentioned. |

Can the AMD64 X2 fit into the AM2 socket of the mobo? |

It can if it sports a Windsor core: wikipedia wrote: Windsor (90 nm SOI)

Remember that the AMD64 X2 use socket 939 while AM2 is socket 1207 if I remember correctly. Or maybe there are AM2 X2s that I missed.

Or maybe there are AM2 X2s that I missed. ![]() Not the ones with a Windsor core. But they're only out since 23 may 2006. That's the difference between an AMD Athlon X2 4600+ with part number ADA4600DAA5BV and one with part number ADA4600DAA5CD. -Edit- Question, does anyone know if a crossfire MoBo can accept a single graphics card and work like a normal system too? I don't know shit about crossfire and I don't want to buy two GPU's. |

If you don't want two GPUs, then why buy a mobo that supports it? Just buy a mobo with 1 PCI Express slot, it is just as fast and reliable as mobos with 2 slots, and is cheaper. |

K, time to look for another MoBo producer. ATI OR doesn't make single GPU slot MoBo's wich support AMD Athlon x2 AM2 processors, OR their site is just too incomprehensive. |

Asus make kickass mobos, you should look into those. I have A8N-E which is a 1xPCI-Express and costed around $90 if I remember correctly. While A8N SLi costed over $200... |
