I thought marathon was a competition that consists of many runners trying to run whole miles in one go.

if you dont know what "marathon" is, its doom with better game play. i am so glad i found this marathon project, its planned to be a stand alone game (im guessing free). the demo hasn't been released yet but im not quite sure, the screen shots are great. i am so syked about this. theres a catch though, it doesnt run on any of the marathon engines...... it runs on a one the team has designed (using dim3). its fully 3d and the graphics are pretty good in my opinion. i dont know what else to say besides join their forum and check out the screenies =D home page: http://www.coldfusiongames.com/main.html pictures at home site: http://www.coldfusiongames.com/screenshots.html forums: http://z14.invisionfree.com/INFESTED_Forum/index.php? *EDIT* i talked to the creator, apparently the demo is REALLY old news..... heres what he said to me. It was really just a tech demo to show people I was working on stuff. However, soon Chapter One will be out, and then you can play that. Btw, welcome to the board." |

Oh My God! My favorite game series of all time! Marathon and Marathon 2: Durandal had an atmosphere unlike anything I'd ever seen, or have seen since. I've dreamed of doing a remake of these games...I will most certainly be seeing what these guys are up to! |

supposably they're making full episodes of this mod. (= lots of levels and aliens to fight) yeah marathon was a great game, the mods are great too........ heres a down side, the dim3 engine isnt available to pc users yet. they are working on porting it though, so sooner or later....... |

What is Dim3 engine? I'm most likely wrong, but it sounds awfully like a Doom 3 engine ripoff judging from the name... |

i do see what you mean bjossi but its absolutely nothing like the doom3 engine. its free, is simple, graphics are no where near doom3, and you can make your own games with it (if u can code, modle, ect.). read more about it here: www.klinksoftware.com |

That is actually pretty cool, one just needs to put together a team of content designers and you got a project going that could get one rich.

I doubt it will make anyone rich, since the rights to Marathon belong to it's creators...Bungie Software...which now belongs to Microsoft. Grim but true... |

Why would anyone want to use Marathon? It's the rendering engine that matters, and most of the old engines are now downloadable for free. |

Grim but true... what are you talking about? they're not saying that this is "Marathon" (the one made by bungi), and there not even using the marathon engine. u may be right about the money thing, but it is a good way for amateurs to get into game making. |

I'm talking about this project in particular. The guy is making a game called "Marathon: Infested." I'm saying he won't be making any money from it, that's for sure. |

All I was saying was "not this project." Most people probably never heard of Marathon unless they were Mac users (and gamers) in the mid 90's. So, they wouldn't know it was made by Bungie in it's early days and thus nobody will ever see another commercial Marathon game, since they are now owned by Microsoft. Of course you could use this free Dim3 engine for an original idea... |
