Ok I was gonna get my computer upgraded but the guy is trying to rip me off buy making me buy a new Graphics card because its not compatible with the new mother board I want wich i need for my new processor. The total price comes to about $1,220 but my cut off is about $500 so i was thinking, should I buy a psp and a Number 4 rifle or get minor upgrades to my computer. |

I should have given more details. He is trying to rip me off by making me buy a mother board thats not compatible with my radeon 9800 pro graphics card, so that i would have to buy a new graphics card even though the one I have is pretty good. I forgot the specs my mother board but my processor is an AMD athalon 64, its 2.4 Ghz. |

He isn't ripping you off; Radeon 9800 a good card? You are living in a dream world. That card couldn't win a 7600 GT if there were 3 working together. I think you should consider a total facelift of your computer. AGP is very close to die out so you might have to upgrade the mobo sooner or later. Is the AMD64 a single or dual-core? |

single core. The card is good for what i use it for, besides i dont have $400 plus to dump onto a new card, when originaly the only thing i was looking for was a new processor. Whats the main difference between PCI and AGP anyways? |

PCI is meant for very old video cards back when they didn't need faster data transfer, PCI is still used by hardware like audio cards or netcards though. AGP isn't outdated yet but PCI-Express is the new mainstream. If the card is good for what you use for, then why do you want an upgrade? A faster processor won't do very much since your current one isn't too shabby. And by the way, a 7600 GT costs less than $120. |

It won't be too long before the 8800 GTX is pretty affordable, and believe me, in any game today that card is plain unstoppable.

Don't games rely more on the processor than the video card? |

Well... It actually relies on the combination: Processor+GFX Card+RAM... But you can boost one if you're lacking at the others (you can boost your RAM to 5 gigs while you have a sucky Intel Celeron and GeForce 4 MX) |

depends on the game you can generally tell what you're lacking when you play.. different kinds of slow.. if it stops for a while, RAM.. etc..
of course, nothing wrong with getting the fattest PC on the planet

Are all muslims terrorists? Nope, Unreal Engine is the only engine that uses the processor more heavily than the video card, of all today's engines that I know of. But you do need a decent processor so it can keep up with the rest of the system. It is called Central Processing Unit for a reason. |
