Really it would be neat to have a mutator that would let the server create custom classes by seting weapons (threw an arena style menu) altering speed health and armor values and nameing the class

think of the posiblitys, if done right it could work for every weapon mod out there and allow weapon varity without the confuion of carrying 32 seperate weapons

Hey, it could work, but then when you kill someone of another class with them dropping not your class of weapon, either you can or cannot pick it up. Make that configurable there.

What do you mean by class in this context? To me class is a word for the folder that stores UC files waiting to be compiled...

I can easily see someone making the same classes from either BF2 or BF2142. Though BF2142 is more balanced in a way. But you never know.

What about EDF? Earth Defense Force, like in Red Faction? Could be cool to have some sort of super-soldiers up against the skrith in an epic-looking map.

I've seen mention of something where you can make your own classes and such, but it was only for UT2003, I think...

If something was made to make a more or less universal class based system where you can create your own classes vie mutator config or something, that would be pretty cool.

I think the UT2003 mod was called something like Switch Arsenal Triad or something, and I'm not entirely sure what all it did, as I don't have UT2003 to try it.

You can still try it, sometimes 2003 mods work on 2004 somehow. At least, some of mine are 2003 mods and work for 2004 (and yet, it said only for 2003, and I get it to run!).

That's because UT2004 didn't exist when those mods were released. And the games both use UE2, which of course makes it quite obvious that mods and maps are likely to be compatible.

Yes, but that is still UE2, a slightly modified version of it. Hardly much difference in the code, so compatibility between UT2003 and 4 is pretty good.

I realize this, and I usually can use UT2003 mods all the time, but this is one that just didn't seem to work on UT2004. I'll mess around with it some more some time and see if I can get it to work.

I doubt it, bigger mods are more complex and harder to make compatible. Don't bother with it.

Let me clarify, I meant I use small mutators for UT2003 all the time, not actual mods...

This one doesn't seem to be very complex, its just a mutator.

Dude, the U file of BW is over 1 MB big, in simple mutators it rarely goes above 8 KBs.

I'd assume that the size is do to the models more then codeing right?

With coding you can make a tiny model come so close to the 1st person view that it looks big, but I think more practical way is to simply make the model big.

So you are assuming correctly I'd say.

It is a small mutator, nothing like BW, I'm betting less than a mb, but I'm not entirely sure I know what you were saying and if what I said had any relevance...

The U file is nothing but UScript, just to clarify. It is simply compiled UC files. The models, skins, etc. are stored in files like UTX, USX, etc. files.

1 MB of code, that pretty much guarantees that incompatibility is hiding somewhere there, in many places for that matter.
