How in video games the player is many times given only a pistol and told to assault a base? really you should at least get a SMG (esp if you require stealth as it can be silenced) or even a service rifle, but no we need to take on 50 foot tall robots and leigions of foot troops with a pistol. |

yes LTIC a Nazi soldier gaurding a prisonar that destoryed the extermely valuebly cemical warfar plans/ (RTCW/wolf 3d) A member of an alien run espionage group planing to encounter hevey resitance on a mission that was directly stated to have trained with and masted automatics (PD) and a MI6 agent that is trying to attack a Russin facilty/a silo/a super villans secert lair in a very unstealty way (and is going to pick up an Ak-74 from the first guy he kills and use it masterfuly) are all only going to use pistols... and to the Bjossi I may have exageratied a bit that they are told to assault a base but there are many times you are given a dangerios mission and sent with olnly a pistol |

(ect) well yeah in most fps's when you start out at some enemy base you only have a pistol and maybe some gadgets (in most cases just a pistol). |

Lets noy forget Quake 2. I've noticed that too, and it bugged me a bit, too, but in the end I just gave up wondering and went back to enjoying the game.

I think so, and most of them have reason for them starting with just a pistol, like in Wolfenstein 3d I think you just took the gun from a guard you killed, Red Faction you're just a miner and thats what you found, and I thinkin both Dooms you were caught unaware and thats just what you had on you. But one thing I don't get is why would a marine (in Quake 2) be supplied with just a hand gun and be expected to find the weapons laying around? Oh well, it doesn't make the games any less fun.

Quake 2 is one case where it doesn't really make sense, that is true. Same can be told about Quake 4. This is just done for gameplay reasons, that's all. |

how about HL2, you start out with a crowbar, then again, you end up with an SMG pretty quickly, just like the pistol. |

in all of the games another weapon (some form of smg) is found very shortly after shooting a bunch of baddies with the ol pistol. i kinda like the idea of owning 1000000 nazis with just a pistol =] |

Actually, its generally more often a shotgun rather than a SMG (at least with the older games), which reminds me, I need to play Clive Barker's Undying right now, that shotgun in there is awesome... Traditional starting handgun ain't too bad in that one either. |

Well the qauke 2 situation was when the marine reached into his/her weapons compartment thats all they found was the pistol it says so in the manual. for Qauke 4, my guess is they thought you were dead, grabbed your weapon and ammo and called it good, stll doesnt explain why they left you pistol though. |

They didn't think you were dead in Quake 4, you did crash land yes, but the medic took care of you before you stood up. I think it is just one of the situations where you only get one weapon for the sake of gameplay. |

Hey, never diss Goldeneye's starting with only a PPK! Plus, you got that KF7 SOlviet so fast, it was really only lasting for 5 seconds with a pistol before you switched to the KF7 anyways. |

turok u start with a knife, and a bow...and theres no real base to assualt, painkiller there are no pistols to start with, unreal 2 you get an AR and a energy weapon very quickly, splinter cell the silenced pistol makes sence... as far as bond only having a pistol, thats all he needs a pistol and wits, which is what got him through everything in the movies in summery lets go with the SEALs on this one "improvise and overcome" |

You got the wrong Barney. Barney Calhan or something like that is the one he means. Unless you were just being sarcastic. In that case, then... nothing. Post = useless In any case, Bond's PPK is awesome in From Russia With Love, where it made sence he was only armed with his PPK. He didn't know the party he was at was about to be attacked I don't think. Even then, he got that sub-machinegun after the first enemy. I think. |

Oh, and almost forgot, I can safely say that I have more than once had much more fun experience; Unreal and Quake 2 being good examples. |
