Ouch.
Just stick with enjoying other people's work like me, you get great music without having to learn an instrument yourself.
I have never been in any competition so I got no story to share.

Okay, once I was just playing in a band competition for solo stuff, and I decided to play... wel... Freebird. On an alto saxophone. Yeah... The judges gave me a 1, a 1, and a 3. I think the last one just got bored of the song's length and stopped paying attention, even during the wicked assed solos I played. And to think, I only had really messed up at least 4 times, but during the triplets and quadruplets mainly (one during a section normally on guitar with chords, but I had to do some improv to get it to sound right using just fast finger switches). Those were the days when I could play an instrument well... |

In a competition hey... Well the only competition I ever won was an all expenses paid trip to London and the V-Festival for a weekend (last August), from VirginMoney, flew Virgin Atlantic "Upperclass", stayed in a fancy hotel in St Martins lane (1 block away from Trafalgur square). Had a ball at the V-Fest, all paid for, access to the VIP lounge etc. Oh yes, and I got to take 3 buddies with...they even gave us spending money 
Mind blowing trip for the 4 of us who had never been overseas!! I'm still debating whether to put it all up on a website.
Busy saving to go back for a proper holiday there... |

Sounds like you had fun.
Now that I think about it, I guess I had a few competitions worthy of mentioning. Several times me and my bro went to some statewide Lego Robotics competitions, and won first place in two of them and second place in the other one. Our robot itself was a little unorthodox in its methods of robot soccer. It went for the other robots (usually not the team mate) first, and when it pulled the cords off them with its claws and left them dead. Then it just kind of casually put the ball in the goal. The odd part is, it was never programmed to be a bot killer, it just kind of came naturally.

I could recount how I went to Atlanta, Georgia this last summer for summer nationals in Fencing. A week in a gargantuan city doing nothing but sightseeing and stabbing people. Heck yeah. And I got to hang out with a lady friend I went to high school with who was working as a nanny (lol) for a uber-rich family there. Both the parents are like high-ranked military or whatnot. So that was really cool. Fly from Idaho to Atlanta to stab people and see someone I went to high school with. |
