as some people know i was trying to get a project started with a free open source game engine. but i am clueless about every thing so by now im like "f*** it....".

it really shouldnt be this hard, maybe its my ADD that interferes with my abylity to learn how to do stuff(i cant focus on one thing for a while. well i can, its mostly just the part where i have to learn new things.). so basically im the type of person that does things better when im being tought 1 on 1.

modeling seems to be my strong point right now, i am adapting to modeling organic objects (like hands, people, ect)as well as objects. it seems like modeling gets easier as you gain experience (makes sense i guess), i have come a long way since some months ago.

i havnt done much recently, since im doomed to never getting any thing done i've lost motivation.

well i've gotten back into modeling recently and the one im working on right now is turning out really nice, to bad i cant texture, animate, code, or any thing that requires a brain(modeling isnt easy, its just the thing i happen to figure out how to do). i think my next model will be some sort of heavy machine gun.

any ways, what really sucks is that i cant even take advantage of the modeling skill i have. maybe if i had some money i could get a nice modeling program and... well i dont know.

just some thoughts.........

i'll post pics when the model im working on now is done (i hope it will blow people away =] , and yes it's something thats real).

Creating an open source game is a lot of work if you want to make something worth playing. You need to make maps, add or remove features from the rendering engine and code your models into the game as AI, pickups, etc.

So without a team of talented people; forget it.

^ That was pretty blunt...

I wonder, if you could make good models of cars and their individual parts, and then wrecked versions of each part (and car), and we get someone to do texturing and someone to help me with coding, we could really get Burnout UT off the ground. Also we'd still need a mapper too since I suck at mapping detailed levels.

I'm pretty good at mapping, just not with UEd.

I like Ued probably because it really easy to use. I just don't know the whole process i on how to export maps and get them to work on other peoples pc's. I'm pretty OK at mapping with Ued. So does anyone know the exact steps leading up and then exporting maps?

I know how to map and stuff and I love that site. But when it comes to exporting my level and sending it to someone else there problems. Like i sent my map to my friend mike but when he got it every time he tried to load or upload it his Unreal ed crashed

You just have to get the .ut2 map file and then just send it like that. Or put it in a ZIP file. It should work, as it does for me everytime. I've sent my DM convert of SavoIsland and my CTF convert of DC's Beach level (so it has an impossible to get flags, but still, made for defend the base stuff) to my bro and it worked for the most part (only when I forgot to rebuild all did it not work).

Making a hand is anything but easy to get right. You will need quite a bit of practice...

If you are looking for an open source game engine, a good one is Crystal Space 3D. It's been around a long time...
It has tools and there are actualy quite a few projects using it.

iD Software released the Quake 3 engine under GPL. That is a very popular and powerful engine.

thanks for the spam post Rage =D
keep on truckin!

i lost count on the hours spent on this model, i dont know if pictures can show all the hard work i put into this model but try and see it from my view. this model was made to press modeling beyond my knowledge, this is the first model i made that i actually tried to make realistic. its a sample model, its not fully detailed... i'll work on it as time goes on. well any ways i'll shut up and get on with this.

model: AK47 (incomplete)
Polys: 655 (all unneeded polys were deleted leaving exactly 655)
time spent: some hours, dunno lol

AK47

Renders....

#2. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... ender2.jpg

the model looks a bit sloppy and amateurish looking, i know. i kinda rushed a little towards the end lol....
again its not done yet =]

so what does every one think?????

so there are no opinions about my model...?
some feedback would be nice......

Some patience on your behalf would be nice too, this isn't exactly a crowded forum.

They look nice, but I think you could use a few more polygons to make the model less blocky.

Nice work. I like the look of the rendered AK very sleek and beautiful. Also the down barrel is great.

looking good so far.. looks like maybe the back handle is kinda fat?? whatcha think?

Author:  James [ Wed Jan 31, 2007 6:46 am ]
Post subject:  weapon models and stuff planned.....

yeah so far i've heard from other people that the clip is to short/fat, the handle is to short(maybe fat too), proportions are a bit off, maybe some other stuff.

i might continue working on it, i might give it up for grabs tho.
