Alright I got a great idea if I could pull it off it would be cool. I live in a city names Sunbury. Its located in Northumberland county PA. Sunbury is basically crap to its inhabitants. But it wasn't always this way. Now my idea focuses around making a free roam mmorpg of sunbury and let you decide everything you do . Examples: Jobs Religion Gangs Clothing Etc. Now I'm no scripter or anything. I'm just learning the ropes of unrealed making crappy maps. I think of it this way all I really have to do is make a custom HUD and with permission of the Dev's I could use Ballistic and Junk war weapons to make the enviorment more fitting for the freedom idea. How hard do you scripters and smart people think my idea would be to accomplish? |

MMO is not gonna be something you'd easily achieve on Unreal's Engine, but the RPG aspect could be done easily enough.
Just making a large map that is fully optimized and such to be efficient as possible and allow for as many players you can fit in UT2004 (32?) might work though. You are probably going to need to figure out NPCs in some way, for that I'd recommend Old School Monsta Tools. And you'd also need t ofigure out how to interact with the environment, which I figure would probably be mainly handled in making the map. So in short, its going to take a lot of time mapping, and might not exactly be an easy task to handle by yourself. This would be an interesting thing to see pulled off though.
Of course, if you use any of the resources I mentioned earlier for your release, make sure you get permission.
I wouldn't recommend using the RPG one as is though, its not very fitting. I'd just use it as reference. |

This ain't gonna happen with UE2.5, trust me. |

Ill make a giant map of sunbury then put some Npc's in it. Somehow make them non violent unless attacked first add some buildings use junk wars (with permission) to place weapons lying around. I can walk down the street right now and find a 2x4 or a beer bottle. I can go into my basement and find a fluorescent light and wrench. So junk wars would be great to use for a city enviorment |

That sounds like a good idea.
Just kind of start small and go on from there. Yeah, junk wars is good for a realistic map like that, it'll do the trick for you, methinks. Scripting NPCs as you described isn't much of a problem using OSMT (Old School Monster Tools), the only thing you might run into is the models. As I'm sure you've noticed, not many people walk around in their everyday life with body armor on.
Who knows, if you find a server that likes the sound and feel of it, they might just put it on full time (or something like that that) and make it something like an MMORPG, only not as massive.

Good idea for this. Have the server running only large city maps like in your idea (but the score count is on DM mode, and has a score limit of 0). Then it must run the UT2004RPG with the Druids RPG 200 Upgrade for the RPG part. And then finally, get a lot of poeple to play, like all 32! |

The only hard part of mapping is getting almost the whole city. I'm sure i could leave alot of things out and still make it a good map but the repetitive textures might take away from the realism |

Tell me if you need textures and I can supply you with some. Just PM me some specifics if you need any.

thats sounds pretty cool
could be fairly challenging i guess.. i mean with models, and the map, and especially coding.. but it could work.. perhaps u could split your map into several parts though? JW permission.. hmm.. probably, as long as credit, etc is given to RS

But is there any way to link maps together so that if playing multiplayer, someone could go to one section of a map while others are in the other sections? Is it even possible to link maps like that in the first place...?

uhhh.. dont think so. DOH!!! i realise now that what you want is like how a MMO is.. my bad
i guess all you can do is make a huge map.. if u can make it that big..

We forgive you. This time...
One thing about making it big and having lots of people play on it would mean it'd need some serious optimization... thats not gonna run smoothly on many computers very easily... |

Guys, how about choosing an engine designed for this kind of gameplay? Without the UE2.5 engine source code, you are stuck with what Epic coded in the terms of graphics and rendering. |

What engine would you advise? |

I don't know, I just advice against UE2.5 unless you are a damn good coder. |

You can try mapping out the city anyways, if you want. I know I'd play it.
P.S. I love urban maps!

I like specific themes of them. I for example greatly prefer an urban map that has rain and thunders as weather effects. Also sunny evening is great if the clouds are done well. |

I pretty much like all of them, as long as you can go inside a good portion of the buildings. Do you know of any good rainy urban maps, Bjossi? (This has gone quite off topic, so just post links in a more appropriate link or simply just IM or PM me about it )

I love urban maps and if I would make a cool city one with some resemblance to Sunbury you guys would have a slight idea of what it looks like!
