i started texturing recently and man is it a bitch to learn. right now im at the stage of painting simple textures onto simple models. i cant imagine how hard it will be to put advanced textures onto high poly models and blah blah blah...... well any ways heres my texture test... #1. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... Glckr2.jpg #2. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... Glckr3.jpg those are pics from the messed up texture i created, i have to erase those black lines you see going around the model. im trying to get a project actually started but first i need models that are actually complete(so im texuring). i'll finish the ak47 later, i dont even really like the high poly version any ways. |

Well it looks cool. Yeah i tried UV Mapping a texture onto this model i made, and it didn't work. Its really confusing. Shame really. Could you post any pics of the AK-47 as it now? |

the one tutorial i sent you shows the basics of uv mapping (i think it was the pistol tutorial). i have 2 versions of the AK-47..... i didnt really like the super high poly one so i went back a few saves and took off from there. here are some pics and shiz of my latest version, theres not much changed..... just better poly usage. here are some brand new pics, they are very pretty...... #1. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... 47/rAk.jpg #2. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... 7/rAk1.jpg #3. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... 7/rAk2.jpg #4. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... 7/rAk3.jpg #5. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... 7/rAk4.jpg |

Yeah, i tried it, but i dunno, it just wouldn't add itself to the model itself or something like that. The AK looks nice. So whats your project anyways, i see you've made a glock and AK-47, what else are you planning on making. |

as soon as i get a few more weapons out like those two(which arent even totally complete yet) i'll probably start trying to make character models(right now i have no ideas). hopefully i will texture the models and if i dont get good at texturing i'll just get some one else to do it. i guess my dream is to join a mod team(or stand alone game) team..... but till then i'll have to work on smaller things with smaller engines and stuff like that. i know my original plan was to create a realistic fps.... but that seems unrealistic now. so if i can get some models together and fool around with some game engine(probably DarkPlaces..... how would i go about getting access to that engine any ways...?) maybe i could get something out. i dont really want to go into detail because if i do it wont be a surprise when i get something out. i found some one to map for the dim3 engine(a temporary engine until i come across something better i can get my hands on that supports mac) and besides me thats it. |

I'll tell ya, make sure you don't start texturing on the wrong models either... that's personal experience... I started by doing a modified version of a texture, and what I only wanted to do was retexture one object and change the tail of it.... ended up taking an hour to just get that part done... horrid texture mapping... Su just keep at it and you'll eventually get good. Maybe as good as even SB! |

SB has plenty of experience, that is gonna take a while to achieve. |

Exactly, you need to start somewhere. Just keep practicing and eventually you'll be in the same quality degree as SB. |

i started 10 years ago!! but i only really got into it in last couple years.. just keep trying stuff, and you'll get it.. learning techniques for everything is pretty nasty though.. i myself, need to learn ALOT more especially on the organic side of things.. but i just really use the Airbrush and PaintBrush these days. like for our gore.. it was hella fun painting brains i tellya it was tricky though.. and to top it off, i made a bump map, and rendered in 3d app, to make it stick out more.. that is the stuff you learn as you go.. just keep at it.. it really cool when you realise, "Hey!! that looks like that thing from that game!! YAY!!"

Those models were pretty nice, but I think you need to look at your smoothing. It looked a little funky based on your photos. |

thanks guys, and yea i'll take your word for it Kelly. i started looking at other programs and found a very cool one, its called cheetah3d. it looks nicer and has more features than wings3d but its not as user friendly.... and its just a demo i think. |
